Q: Should I paint the GLT if using it outside?

A: Yes, paint all sides with a suitable fungal-resistant treatment preservative for outdoor applications.

DO’S & DONT’S

Hyne GLT is tough, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t need some love.
But remember, in order for your product warranty to remain valid, follow advice provided in the Technical Data Sheets available at www.hyne.com.au/resources/technical-data- sheets

  • DON’T DROP IT
Seems obvious, but don’t cause damage to the finished surfaces, edges or the structural integrity.

  • LIFT WITH CARE
Chains and wire slings might damage the product, so use a clean and undamaged ‘soft’ sling.

  • KEEP IT DRY
If it hasn’t come wrapped, be sure to cover it. And remember to allow some air circulation around the timber to prevent moisture build up.

  • PLACE ON BEARERS
That big pile of mud or uneven surface probably isn’t a good spot to store your timber. Let’s keep it out of puddles and moisture.

  • REPAIR DAMAGED WRAPPING
Reseal tears or rips with tape to prevent moisture getting through.
Or if you’d prefer re-cover the timber with waterproof sheeting.

  • APPLY A PRIMER
Apply one coat of primer to all surfaces prior to erecting. Make sure to check that the primer is compatible with the topcoat paint too.

  • PAINT IF USING OUTSIDE
Paint all sides, including any cuts/holes etc. with a suitable fungal resistant treatment preservative such as Tanalised Ecoseal,  Tanalised Enseal, or Osmose Protim Solignum Reseal.

  • DON’T USE DARK PAINT
Dark paint can cause surface checking. Apply light-coloured paint systems or coatings.

  • TREAT CUT SURFACES
Reseal cuts, rebates or drill holes with a suitable site application of a timber preservative such as Tanalised Ecoseal, Tanalised Enseal, or Osmose Protim Solignum Reseal.

  • UNTREATED NOT SUITABLE OUTDOORS
Non durable (less than durability class 2) or untreated, less than H3 treated GLT are unsuitable for weather-exposed conditions.

  • APPLY CAPPING
Apply top-edge and end capping on weather-exposed faces or ends of GLT to help keep the timber dry and protected from UV rays.
