LOSS OF PRESSURE IN THE TYRES WHILE DRIVING
If one of the tyres loses pressure while driving:

  1. Drive straight, release the throttle and allow the vehicle to slow down.
  2. Do not immediately apply the brakes or try to pull off the road as this may cause you to lose control of the vehicle. Once the electric mobility scooter has slowed down sufficiently that it is safe to brake and drive off the road carefully, it should be done. Drive as far away from the road as possible and park the vehicle on a solid, level surface.
  3. When the vehicle has stopped, turn on the hazard lights.
  4. Inflate the tyre as soon as possible or replace it if necessary.

BATTERY

The TURRIS model can be equipped with a lead-acid battery (AKUAGM12SET4) or a lithium-ion battery (DRABALITX). Both of these batteries have a voltage of 48 volts. If your scooter is ordered with a lead-acid battery, you cannot replace it for the lithium-ion one yourself.
WARNING !
If your scooter model has a lead acid battery installed, do not disassemble it without proper technical knowledge. Lead acid batteries are not intended to be removed and charged at home. This is purely an attribute of lithium-ion batteries.
Battery maintenance instructions:

  • It should be remembered that too frequent charging of the batteries will lead to irreversible loss of their capacity.

  • The charger is equipped with an indicator that signals the end of the charging process.

  • To ensure a longer battery life, charge the battery (as soon as the power indicator comes close to discharged) in a full single cycle of approx.6- 8 hours.

  • Using the lights affects the battery consumption.

  • Too short a battery charging time will result in a gradual loss of capacity, resulting in a shorter travel distance.

  • If the battery is opened by the user, the manufacturer’s liability lapses and all claims are voided.

  • Do not expose the battery to temperatures below -10 °C or above 50 °C.

  • If the scooter is not used for a long time, it should be charged regularly so that you can use it at any time. Unused batteries should be recharged every 3 weeks. Batteries will slowly self-discharge (deep discharge) if they are not used for a long time. Charging them with the included charger becomes impossible.

  • WARNING !
Injury hazard – Remove key before charging.

  • WARNING !
Electric Shock Hazard – Never plug or unplug the plug or cord with wet hands while charging. Do not plug in or unplug the plug or cord when wet. This could result in electric shock. Do not use the charger if its casing is damaged.

  • WARNING !
Risk of fire – do not charge the battery near containers with gasoline, solvents or other flammable materials.

  • WARNING !
Charge the batteries in a well-ventilated area. Do not expose the charger to direct sunlight while charging. Do not charge the battery in wet places or in the rain.

  • WARNING !
Remember to fully charge the batteries each time, otherwise the batteries will lose their life faster than expected by the manufacturer.

  • WARNING !

    • If the charger is on and the LED light is not lit, check the main fuse.
    • If the red LED light is off and the battery is flat, the charger or the scooter electrical system is damaged. Contact an authorized service center.

CHARGING THE LEAD-ACID BATTERY

  • Fully charge the battery before the first ride.
  • The charging socket is located under the driver’s seat.
  • Only charge the scooter battery with the supplied charger.
  1. Turn the scooter off with the key and remove it from the ignition switch.
  2. Open the cover that protects the charging socket.
  3. Insert the charger plug into the charging socket.
  4. Connect the charger plug to an electrical outlet. The charger will start charging, with a red LED activating to signal this. Riding the scooter is not possible while charging – the immobilizer is active.
  5. When the LED turns green, it means charging is complete. Charging time is approximately 6-8 hours.
  6. When charging is complete, disconnect the charger from the electrical outlet.
  7. Disconnect the charger plug from the charging socket on the scooter and close the charging socket cover.
  8. The vehicle is ready for use.

CHARGING THE LITHIUM-ION BATTERY
The lithium-ion battery can be charged in the same way as a lead-acid battery (see chapter CHARGING THE LEAD-ACID BATTERY) or you can pull the battery out of the scooter to charge it in a separate room.

  1. Remove the lithium-ion battery from the scooter as instructed in chapter DISASSEMBLY OF THE BATTERIES.
  2. Plug the charger supplied with the scooter directly into the battery into the socket.
  3. After charging, put the battery back in the scooter and connect the plug to the battery.
  • ADVICE
After charging the vehicle, turn the vehicle on for a few minutes to see if it is sufficiently charged. The effectiveness of the battery depends on the driving style of the mobility scooter (frequency of starting, driving in, driving on uneven terrain). At an optimal temperature range, the battery may be at maximum range, whilst the range may be reduced outside of this optimum.

  • WARNING !
The manufacturer is not responsible for any damage caused by improper charging.

  • WARNING !

  • Use only genuine batteries.

    • Veleco is not liable for any damage resulting from the use of a battery that has not been supplied by our company.
    • Given maximum range
    • The specification gives an example of a value under ideal conditions: average user weight, average speed and smooth ground.
  • Optimum battery charging is in the range of 20-80%. In case of frequent discharges below the optimal value, the service life of the battery may be shortened.

ATTENTION

  • The scooter has not been designed to tow other vehicles and trailers / semi-trailers. Using the scooter in this way can cause loss of traction, loss of control, and structural damage, which could result in an accident while driving.
  • The scooter is a one-seater vehicle and driving with a passenger may also cause loss of traction or control of the vehicle, as well as damage to the vehicle due to exceeding its maximum weight.

STARTING THE MOTOR AND DRIVING A MOBILITY SCOOTER

Before driving:

  • It is recommended to fully charge the battery.

  • Make sure the seat is locked in the drive position.

  • Use the drive mode switch to set the speed to minimum (I). The higher speed values should only be used if the user is fluent in operating and controlling the vehicle.

  • We recommend checking that the brake levers work properly.

  • We recommend checking that all lights are working properly.

  • WARNING !
If you are using the vehicle for the first time, make sure that it is on level ground and that all wheels are in contact with it.

  • WARNING !
Sudden side winds caused by large vehicles overtaking or being overtaken, exiting tunnels or driving over mountain slopes can also make it difficult to steer the scooter. Remember to reduce speed and watch out for crosswinds.

STARTING THE MOTOR :

  1. Turn the ignition key switch to the ON position.
  2. Push Ready button on the right handle.
  3. Make sure it is safe to start driving.
  4. Slowly turn the throttle.
  • DRIVING ON A PAVEMENT AND OTHER PAVED SURFACES

    • Be sure to set the drive mode switch to the smallest position when riding the mobility scooter on the pavement. The maximum speed for walking on the pavement depends on the regulations of the given country. Check your country’s laws and regulations before riding. The drive mode switch can be set to the highest value for driving on the road or on private property.
  • DRIVING ON SURFACES OTHER THAN PAVED SURFACES

    • Driving on surfaces such as high grass, sand, mud, etc. is not recommended.
  • REVERSE DRIVING

    • Driving in reverse requires increased concentration and caution. It is recommended to limit the speed to a minimum. When driving in reverse, the scooter will signal the maneuver.
  • UPHILL DRIVING

    • Drive up slopes from the front to avoid tipping over. Check that all wheels always touch the ground (ramps, etc.). It is always recommended to lean slightly forward when climbing high slopes. The battery indicator may move up and down when driving on a slope. Use extreme care when driving on slopes and inclines, and use the brakes if necessary.
  • WARNING !

    • Remember that each vehicle has limited stability and traction. Always adjust your speed to the type of road surface, slope and surrounding conditions. If the vehicle is used on the road, be especially careful and follow local regulations. Remember that incorrect driving of the vehicle may cause injury to other people. Pay particular attention to young children in the vicinity of the scooter.
  • WARNING !
Each of these factors affects the number of kilometers traveled. In order to use the mobility scooter as economically as possible and to reduce the costs of charging and repairing the battery, please pay attention to the following points:

    • The electric mobility scooter should run smoothly. Speed up moderately. Do not move the mobility scooter abruptly and do not change the drive mode with the control handle fully twisted and maintain a constant speed. Try to adapt to the traffic on the road to avoid frequent changes of speed. If possible, avoid heavy traffic. Always keep a safe distance from other vehicles to avoid unnecessary braking. This also reduces brake wear. Drive the electric mobility scooter at a moderate speed. The higher the speed of the vehicle, the greater the consumption of the battery.
    • Tyres require maintenance. Maintain the recommended tyre pressure. Incorrect pressure – both too high and too low – causes unnecessary wear on the tyres. Tyre pressure should be checked at least once a month.
    • Maintain the vehicle in good condition. To reduce battery wear and maintenance costs, follow a regular maintenance schedule.
    • Keep the vehicle clean. The electric mobility scooter should be free of corrosive substances. It is very important to prevent mud, dust, ice etc. from accumulating on the undercarriage of the vehicle. This unnecessary burden can cause increased battery wear and corrosion.
    • Do not overload the mobility scooter. Do not transport unnecessary loads. The load increases the consumption of the battery.

BRAKING

  1.  Release the accelerator button.

  2.  Use the front and rear brakes simultaneously and evenly by pressing the right and left brake levers.

    • WARNING !
Inexperienced drivers tend to overuse only the rear brake. This results in longer braking distances and can lead to a collision. Using only one brake can lead to wheel spin and loss of vehicle control. You should use both brakes simultaneously.

    • WARNING !
As the speed of the mobility scooter increases, so does the braking distance. Keep a sufficient and safe distance from vehicles in front of you and other obstacles.

    • WARNING !
Braking while cornering can lead to a skid and subsequent loss of vehicle control. Before starting the braking maneuver – slow down; avoid risky braking maneuver in a curve.

    • PARKING
When parking the scooter, the user should use both the parking brake and the steering lock. The parking brake prevents the vehicle from rolling forward or backward by itself when parked on uneven ground.
To set the parking brake, pull the left brake lever (1) all the way, then push the parking brake pin upwards (2) with your other hand. This locks the handbrake in place.
To release the parking brake, pull the brake lever all the way and then release it.

LOCATION OF POINTS FOR ADDITIONAL LOADS

A little extra weight can be hung on the hook under the handlebars. The maximum lifting capacity of the hook is 25 kg, exceeding this weight may cause the hook to break off.

LONGER BREAKS IN USING THE VEHICLE AND RE-PREPARING FOR DRIVING
In the event of a planned longer break in the use of the vehicle:

  1. Place the scooter on level ground.
  2. Make sure all brakes are released (do not use the parking brake).
  3. Check the pressure in the tyres (low pressure increases the risk of deformation of the tyre).
  4. Switch off the power with the main switch, the scooter components (even when not in use) use a minimum amount of energy. Failure to turn off the main switch will discharge the battery, and consequently its sulphation and irreparable damage.
  5. We recommend covering the mobility scooter with a cover, tarpaulin or blanket.

To prepare the vehicle for the next drive:

  1. Check tyre pressure.
  2. Check the brake fluid level (DOT 4).
  3. Charge the battery (full cycle, approx. 8 hours).
  4. Check the operation of lights and horn.
  5.  Adjust the mirrors
  6. Carry out a test drive in first gear, and during it check the operation of the brakes and steering.
  7. If the road test in first gear was without problems, carry out the test run through the full speed range.

MOVING OR RELOCATING OF THE MOBILITY SCOOTER
To move the scooter when not in use, make sure that the power to the scooter is completely turned off using the main switch under the scooter seat, unlock the steering wheel and parking brake and move the scooter by grasping it with both hands on the steering levers.

SERVICE MANUAL

  • MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE INSTRUCTION
In order to maintain the efficiency of the vehicle, it is the user’s responsibility to check the condition of some parts of the scooter and their possible maintenance (we recommend checking the condition of the vehicle before and after each use). The elements for which the user is responsible are:

    • Battery condition control – charge the scooter with a full cycle, then start it and check the charge level on the display (see chapter SPEEDOMETER). If the battery voltage is above 49 V, the battery is considered functional, but over time the range of the scooter may be lower than specified in the specification, despite the correct voltage. In case that the voltage of a fully charged battery is below 48 V, the battery must be replaced with a new one. Failure to check the battery condition or driving on a faulty battery may cause the scooter to switch off unexpectedly during the journey. In case of a replacement, spare parts can be purchased directly on the manufacturer’s website shop.veleco.eu by searching under the following product code:

    • DRABALITX – lithium-ion battery. Tool-free plug & play replacement by user.

    • AKUAGM12SET4 – lead acid battery. Appropriate tools and knowledge are required for replacement, the replacement must be performed by a person with appropriate qualifications.
      ATTENTION
The batteries listed above are not interchangeable! The lithium-ion battery will not work in the scooter that originally had a lead-acid battery installed and vice versa.

    • The braking system control

    • while standing next to the scooter, press the brake lever. The lever should have a noticeable resistance. With the lever pressed down, try to push the scooter, if the brakes are working properly the scooter will not start. Release the brake lever, fully working brakes should return to the starting position. If the rear brake lever (left lever) is too tight, or if it does not block the scooter, it may be necessary to adjust the brake. The adjustment is made without tools by screwing in (loosening) or unscrewing (tightening) the barrel screw, which deter-mines the initial tension of the brake cable. If the adjustment range is exhausted and the brake still does not perform as expected, it may be necessary to replace the brake pads. In this case, we recommend that you use the manufacturer’s official website. The front brake (right lever) is a hydraulic brake, so it has no adjustment range, and its malfunction should be reported directly to the service department. If the brakes work properly, it is recommended to additionally check the operation of the parking brake. Once locked in accordance with the instructions in the PAR-

  • KING section, the scooter should not be pushed, otherwise the brake cable must be tightened in accordance with the instructions for adjusting the rear brake above. If the regulations described above do not allow the brakes to be adjusted properly, contact the seller or the manufacturer. In case of replacement, spare parts can be purchased directly on the manufacturer’s website, shop.veleco.eu, by searching under the following product code:

    • DRAHEL – electromagnetic brake
    • DRALHP – front brake cable
    • DRAUPH – front brake handle
    • DRAHBP – front drum brake
    • DRALHT – rear brake cable
    • UNISZCZHAM – universal brake shoes
  • Tyres control – check the visual condition of the tyres, examine them and check them for any mechanical damage or cracks. If the tyres are visually in a good condition, check their pressure. If the tyre pressure is incorrect, see section INSTRUCTION ON HOW TO INFLATE TYRES. After inflating the tyres, wait about 10 minutes to check that the pressure in the tyres does not drop. If the tyres have visual damage, they should be replaced when the pressure decreases, despite the good condition of the tyres, it is possible to damage the inflation valve or a possibility of a microscopic hole in the tyre. Tyres can be vulcanized with repair kits available on the market or in specialist workshops. If replacement is necessary, spare parts can be purchased directly on the manufacturer’s website, shop.veleco.eu, by searching under the following product code:

    • UNIO3-0-10 – front and rear tyre
    • UNIWENZ – universal valve
  • Lighting control – use the appropriate buttons on the shift lever to check that the correct lights come on. In the event of failure of a light, the appropriate bulb may need to be replaced. If replacing the bulb does not help, the controller or the converter may be damaged. In this case, please contact the manufacturer’s official service directly. If it is necessary to replace, spare parts can be purchased directly on the manufacturer’s website, shop.veleco.eu, by searching under the following product code:

    • FASLAMP – front lamp
    • FASLTS – central rear lamp
    • UNIZARX – bulb 12 V universal 21/5
    • UNIZARLEDLB – LED bulb universal full 21/5 (A’2)
    • UNIZARDK – indicator bulb
    • DRAST48 – controller 48 V
    • ZT15PRZ48V – universal 48 V converter
  • Sound system control – using the appropriate buttons check that the scooter emits a warning sound. If the signal does not work, it may be necessary to replace the horn. If replacing the horn does not help, damage to the controller or converter is possible. In this case, please contact the manufacturer’s official service directly. If it is necessary to replace, spare parts can be purchased directly on the manufacturer’s website, shop.veleco.eu, by searching under the following product code:

    • UNIWKLAKSX – universal horn
