Preparation
Choosing a location
- When choosing the location of the device, ensure that the permitted ambient temperature (see Technical data on page 20) in the direct vicinity is observed and that it is not influenced by other devices.
- The air inlets and outlets must not be blocked. Allow at least 10 cm of clearance behind and in front of the device to enable strong air circulation.
- IMPORTANT: The PersonalWorkplace-Controller continuously monitors the internal temperature during operation.
- Take steps to reduce the ambient temperature immediately if the message temperature is now at 75°C is displayed.
Planning the video bandwidth
NOTE: If the data rate of the incoming video signals exceeds the available band-width, an overrun message will be displayed and some output windows will display no content.
- Because of the very high data rates of the video signals, certain bandwidth restrictions must be observed when planning and operating the device:
- System: The device can process simultaneous video signals with a maximum total size of 2,000 MP/s.
- Video card: The video card (see page 23) can process simultaneous video signals with a maximum total size of 1,200 MP/s.
- NOTE: The video performance of the video card is sufficient for processing up to nine HD video signals simultaneously.
Planning the maximum pixel area, number of output monitors and virtual
outputs
The PersonalWorkplace-Controller supports two different output modes: dynamic
mode and legacy mode.
Dynamic mode
In dynamic mode one monitor with any aspect ratio is supported as standard, or
one virtual output.
- In this mode, for example, you can connect one output monitor with the following pixel areas:
- 5120×1440 (32:9, 7.4 MP)
- 3840×2160 (16:9, 8.3 MP)
- 2560×1600 (16:10, 4.1 MP)
- ADVICE: You can purchase an additional display licence (article number: A8200054) to connect a maximum of one additional output monitor or use one additional virtual output.
- NOTE: The maximum available pixel area is 8192×8192.
Legacy mode
- In legacy mode up to five output monitors with fixed aspect ratios of 16:9 and 16:10 are supported.
- The variant PersonalWorkplace-Controller Basic KVM can manage maximum pixel area of 8 MP in this mode.
- For example, in this mode you can display in the following resolutions on the connected output monitors:
- 1 × 3840×2160 (16:9, 8.3 MP)
- 2 × 2560×1600 (16:10, 4.1 MP)
- 1 × 2560×1600 (16:10, 4.1 MP) and 2 × 1920× 1200 (16:10, 2.3 MP)
- ADVICE: You can purchase an additional display licence (article number: A8200054 ) to expand the pixel area to a maximum total size of 16 MP.
- NOTE: The maximum available pixel area is 8192×4096.
Connecting HDMI or DVI signals
The video card uses two different technical solutions for the video inputs:
- HDMI: Some of the video inputs (see tables on page 9) use HDMI sockets and pro-cess HDMI signals.
- DVI: The other video inputs (see tables on page 9) also use HDMI sockets, but process DVI signals.
NOTE: Although HDMI signals are supposed to be backward-compatible wit h DVI signals, this is not always the case.
- For example, DVI signals from older graphics cards or onboard graphic GPUs can in some cases not be processed by the HDMI signal inputs.
- Use the DVI signal inputs of the video cards if flickering occurs in the video display or if no signal messages are displayed.
Support of any frame rates
- The HDMI connections support any frame rate within the maximum pixel rate.
- The frame rate of an input should, however, be as close as possible to the frame rate of the output monitor. If this is not the case, frames will be left out or inserted a s needed. The output is then not entirely synchronous.
Installation
Connecting video inputs
NOTE: The video inputs are labelled with numbers from 1 to 9.
Connect the video sources to the various HDMI connections. Observe the various technical requirements of the HDMI sockets:
INPUT 1| SIGNAL TYPE (IN HDMI| TERNAL) MAX. PIXEL
RATES 550 MP/s
---|---|---
2,3,4| HDMI| 300 MP/s
5,6,7,8| DVI| 165 MP/s
9| HDMI| 165 MP/s
ADVICE: Input 1 can process UHD video signals with 60Hz and inputs 2, 3 and 4 can process UHD video signals with 30Hz.
Connecting output monitors
Connect the output monitors to the five available video outputs:
OUTPUT
1A
| CONNECTION
DisplayPort
---|---
1B| DisplayPort
1C| DisplayPort
1D| HDMI
1E| DVI-DL
As a factory setting, all video inputs are displayed at output 1A. In order to initial start-up, it is necessary to use a monitor with a resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels on output 1A
- IMPORTANT: Display errors may occur at other resolutions. In this case, use the web application to select the required resolution under Configuration > Display Arrangement (see Checking or changing the general configuration on page 18).
- IMPORTANT: When connecting the monitors, observe the restrictions mentioned in the Technical data with regard to the number of monitors and the supported pixel grid (see page 20).
