Introduction

Melodics is a critically acclaimed music teaching tool that helps put you in control – Melodics will:

  • Give you instant feedback on your timing & accuracy.
  • Break down relevant theory and brand new techniques step by step.
  • Build your musical expertise, with lessons for all skill levels across great genres.

Melodics syncs with your Nektar keyboard, allowing you to plug and play straight away!

This manual will guide you through using the additional controls on your Nektar controller for easy navigation, so you can practice Melodics without leaving your keyboard.

Play, pause, restart, select, plus many more transport controls right at your fingertips. See pages 3-5 for more information on using these controls.

Initial Setup

Step 1

Melodics is free to download! Install the latest version of Melodics for your desktop.
Or visit the App Store to download for iPad.

Step 2

Plug your Nektar controller into your computer or iPad via a USB connection.
Your device will be available in the ‘Selected Instrument’ dropdown menu in the Settings screen.

Important note if your devices isn’t recognised:

We recommend closing other software (such as MIDI monitors or DAWs) while using Melodics – this will allow Melodics to have exclusive control over your instrument.

Transport Controls

Navigating the Lesson menu

When SHIFT is pressed, the button turns BLUE and these controls will work as follows:

In the Explore page:

S1 = Opens Lessons tab
S2 = Opens Exercises tab
S3 = Opens Songs tab

Navigating lessons in the Learning Screen:

<TRACK = Move Selection up
TRACK> = Move Selection down
<PATCH = Move Selection left
PATCH> = Move Selection right

Transport Controls

When the SHIFT button is inactive (no longer blue), they work as follows:

STOP = Listen to lesson preview
PLAY = Open selected lesson
CLICK = Show lesson description (‘more’)

On opening a Lesson

When SHIFT is not active/not blue.

In the Pre-Play screen:

STOP = Toggle ‘Listen to step’
REC = Return to ‘Explore’
page if pressed whilst
playback is stopped
PLAY = Start Lesson
REW = Select previous step
FWD = Select next step

During a Lesson Step

PLAY = Play/restart
LOOP = Switch to
practice/performance
REC = Return to ‘pre-play’
CLICK = Metronome On/Off
STOP = Pause/play

On completing a Step

LOOP = Replay Step (back to Performance if passed at over 50%, back to Practice if failed)
REC = Skip to Next Step Pre-play screen
PLAY = Next Step Pre-play screen (if passed at over 50%)

S1 = Brings up window to Set Loop
S2 = Toggle ‘Wait’
S3 = Toggle Auto BPM
Wheel = BPM Slider (not for Mini)

TRACK > = MOVE START LOOP POINT RIGHT
<PATCH = MOVE END LOOP POINT LEFT
