Product Usage Instructions

Liner Installation Instructions:
Always dig with caution. Call 811 or your local utility company before you begin digging to locate buried pipes or power lines on your property.

  • Step 1. Mark the outline of your pond.
Use a marker or paint to mark the desired outline of your pond on the ground.

  • Step 2. Dig out your pond.
Remove any debris or rocks that may damage your liner while digging. Optionally, add approximately 2 inches of sand to the bottom of the pond and compress it. This will act as a cushion beneath your pond liner. Alternatively, you can install underlayment in place of the sand.

  • Step 3. Install the liner.
Open the liner and drape it across the pond area, ensuring that there is at least 10 inches (ideally 1 foot) of overlap around the perimeter of the pond. Adjust the position of the liner as needed to ensure proper coverage.

  • Step 4. Fill the pond with water.
Begin filling the pond with water until it reaches the desired level. Monitor the water level and adjust as needed during the filling process.

MAINTENANCE

PUMP
Regular cleaning of the pump may be necessary depending upon the environment which it is operated. Clean the pump when it is visibly soiled or when a drop in performance is detected. Clean pump in 4 easy steps!

  • Step 1: Before cleaning, always disconnect the pump from the power source and remove the pump cover.
  • Step 2: Remove the impeller cover to expose the impeller assembly. Remove the impeller assembly by gently pulling on the impeller blades. The impeller is held in place by a magnet.
  • Step 3: Use a soft cloth or brush and warm water to clean the impeller and the inside of the impeller housing.
  • Step 4: Reassemble all pump parts and place in water before reconnecting to the power source.

FILTER

  • Occasional cleaning of the filter pads will be necessary to ensure the proper functioning of the filter. The coarse filter pad is a designed to trap large debris. The fine filter pad catches smaller particles. All pads should be removed and washed with clean water when they are visibly soiled – for best results, clean the filter pads weekly.

  • Before cleaning, always disconnect the pump from the power source.

  • Filter pads should be replaced annually. Use smartpond® Replacement Filter Pads Model #52286.

  • The exterior surface of the filter box may also need occasional cleaning. Particularly if the openings in the top of the filter box are obstructed. When cleaning the filter box use warm water only. Do not use any chemicals that may destroy the beneficial bacteria.
NOTE: The bio-balls in your filter system and the inside surfaces of the filter box contain the beneficial bacteria. At least once a year the entire system should be disassembled and cleaned thoroughly using warm water. This should not be done during the warm season as it may take up to 8 weeks to re- establish the environmental balance. The best time of the year to “breakdown” your system is in early spring before the water temperatures begin to rise. This is also the ideal time to replace the filter pads.

  • Reassemble all parts and place in water before reconnecting to the power source.

LIGHT SET

  •  The lights may require cleaning from time to time for optimal performance.
  • Before cleaning, always disconnect from the power source.
  • Use a soft cloth or brush and warm water to clean the parts.
  • Reconnect to the power source when you are finished.

TROUBLESHOOTING

  • IF THE PUMP FAILS TO OPERATE:
    • Check to make sure the power cord is plugged in and the pump is getting power.
    • Check the pump outlet and any tubing, fountains, spitters etc. for kinks or obstructions.
    • Remove the front cover and/or pump cover, and impeller cover to expose the impeller. Turn the impeller to ensure that it is not broken or jammed.
  • IF THE PERFORMANCE OF THE PUMP IS NOT SATISFACTORY OR THE PUMP DOES NOT FLOW EVENLY:
    • Check to make sure the pump is completely submerged in water
    • Check to make sure the impeller and the impeller housing are clean.
    • Adjust flow control.
  • IF LIGHTS FAIL TO ILLUMINATE:
    • Check that lights are getting power by testing another appliance in the same power outlet.
    • The light is designed to turn on when it gets dark, and turn off when it gets light. To activate the light during daylight hours, cover the sensor.
    • If lights do not turn off during daytime, check sensor. Make sure the sensor faces up and is not covered by dirt or debris.
  • IF TURTLE SPITTER FAILS TO OPERATE:
    • Adjust flow control on diverter valve, make sure water is run to spitter.
    • Check the spitter outlet, inlet and tubing for kinks or obstructions.
