iTUbe2 Vacuum Tube Buffer and Line Stage Preamplifier

Analogue Volume Control (incl. ON/OFF)

The iTube2 can be used as straight ‘pass through tube buffer’ (1M ohm input impedance) OR as a single source pre-amplifier with the volume control (100k input impedance). If buffer mode has been selected, please ensure that iTube2 is ON by turning the volume control up from the lowest position past an audible ‘click.’

+(SET/Push-Pull/-)

First seen in the flagship Pro iCAN, the adjustable Tube+feature injects the ‘magic of tubes’ for relaxing, yet enticing playback. If + is set to: SET The sound signature of a Single-Ended Triode power amplifier. Produces a sound parallel to classic, low-distortion tube-based studio equipment. Push-Pull The sound signature of a Push-Pull tube power amplifier.

If** + is set to:**

SET
The sound signature of a Single-Ended Triode power amplifier. Produces a sound parallel to classic, low-distortion tube-based studio. equipment.

Push-Pull
The sound signature of a Push-Pull tube power amplifier.

Tip: There is no ‘right’ setting, set according to system synergy and listener preference.

XBass+® for Speakers (20Hz with +12dB/20Hz with +6dB/-)

XBass® for Speakers is quite different to its sister technology XBass for Headphones. The former gives audio systems adjustable levels of bass control to enhance listening enjoyment through speakers that have limited bass extension. Great care has been taken to ensure no degradation in sound quality.

20 Hz (6dB)
For speakers missing only the lowest bass notes (below 40Hz).

20 Hz (12dB)

For speakers missing some bass notes (below 80Hz).

XBass+ switched out.

3D Holographic+Ⓡ for Speakers (30°+/+/-)

The latest 3D Holographic+Ⓡ matrix for Speakers offers something quite special; it takes high-end systems to another level of performance. It was drawn from the original ground-breaking work by Alan Blumlein, the ‘father of stereo!’

First, it corrects the fundamental spatial distortion in recordings. Second, it increases the width of the soundstage beyond that of the speaker placement. 30°+ This matrix adds an extra 30° to redress the narrow placement of speakers (eg either side of a PC monitor).

3D+ matrix is switched out of the signal path.

This matrix recreates original ‘width’ of the soundstage and is the recommended DEFAULT setting.

Underside Dip Switches

Underside Dip Switches

On the underside of the iTube2, please select the dip switch in order to engage/disengage:

  1. Pure Tube Buffer.
  2. Pure Tube Buffer with 9dB gain.
  3. Preamp with Analogue Volume Control. iv. Preamp with Analogue Volume Control and 9dB gain.

Note: ONLY change the dip switches when the iTube2 is powered OFF (otherwise damage to attached equipment may ensue). iFi is not responsible for any damage arising from misuse.

Power Input

The iTube2 is also fully-compatible with 12V electrics as used in cars, recreational vehicles or boats, so it can be powered directly from the standard 12V in any such vehicle.

LED
Red for ‘warming up’ or ‘DC protection’ Amber for operation.
