UNDERSTANDING SAFETY HELMET CLASSES AND TYPE
There are a variety types of head protection in today’s market ranging from
hardhats to safety helmets. Within these types, they are sorted by Classes and
Types. While it can be overwhelming to determine which is best for you, this
section will help you try to understand them as short and simply as possible.
To determine the protection level of a helmet there are two types and
three classes. The two types are the Type 1 and Type 2 helmet. Type 1 focuses
primarily on protection of the top portion of the helmet, whereas Type 2
focuses on both top and sides of the helmet.
Within each type there are 3 classes.
Consumer (C}, Electric (E), and General (G).
Consumer Helmets offer the most comfort with its open vent design, allowing
more airflow to the user. Type E offers the most protection against Electric
Shock, with it able to withstand up to 20,000 Volts. Type G offers less
electric protection than E, and is
intended to be used in exposure to low voltage settings.
The H1-CH is a Type 1 Class C helmet, and is designed to provide Protection to
users while also providing comfort in periods of high temperature settings.
The H1-EH is a Type} Class E helmet, and provides both top
protection and electrical protection of up to 20,000V (phase to ground).
BEFORE PUTTING ON THE HELMET
Always observe for any cracks or damages before wearing the helmet. If found,
dispose of the helmet immediately. Inspect the shell for breakage, cracks,
craze pattern, discoloration, chalky appearance, or any other unusual
condition. If any of these conditions exist, replace the shell immediately,
as these conditions can indicate that the helmet has lost its capacity to
protect from impact, penetration, and/or electrical shock.
Check the suspension for loss of flexibility. Check the suspension
for cracks, breaks, frayed straps, or damaged stitching. If any of these
conditions exist, replace the suspension before wearing a helmet.
ADJUSTING THE HEIGHT OF THE HELMET’S SUSPENSION
To adjust the height of the suspension, apply sufficient force and pull on the side tabs of the suspension from both sides. Once removed, adjust the pin of the suspension to the specific hole desired. Once the pins have been placed, slot the suspension back into the helmet, ensuring that there is a proper click when fitted in.
ADJUSTING THE RATCHET FOR FIT
To adjust the ratchet, use the knob to loosen ar tighten the fit of the helmet. This helmet must fit securely on the head to provide maximum protection
ADJUSTING THE BUCKLE
The length of the buckle can be adjusted using the adjustment clip that can be found on the right side of the helmet when donning. Adjust the length of the buckle so that the chin-cup fits securely to the user’s chin.
ADDING AND REMOVING HELMET ACCESSORIES
Ear Muffs
To attach the ear muffs, locate the stot points which can be found on the
sides of the helmet. Slide the ear muff tab firmly and ensure a click noise is
made when slotted in. To remove the earmuffs, flip the helmet upside down and
press the bottom tab of the attachment point to release and then pull the ear
muffs away.
Visors/Face shield
Place the helmet upside down with the ratchet facing towards you. Locate the 2
holes on the helmet. Align the left clips labeled “L1” on the inner right of
the helmet, and the “L2″ clipped on to the outer right side.
The clips must align with the hole of the helmet. Repeat the process for the
left side of the helmet with the “R17” and “R2″ pieces.
Place the visors over the outside of the clip and ensure the visors are locked
in with the nose piece facing up. Once placed, use a screwdriver to tighten
the screw from the inside. It is recommended to not use an electric
screwdriver as the torque can cause cracks on the attachment points. Avoid
over tightening.
Suspension
To remove the suspension, press each of the 4 clips upwards until they slide
off the mask. Remove the strap of each clip.
Flip the helmet upside down, and apply sufficient pressure to remove the 6
tabs of the suspension.
To add the suspension, connect the straps to the suspension, Then
connect the suspension tabs to the helmet.
CLEANING AND MAINTAINING YOUR HELMET
Inspect your safety helmet shell and suspension regularly for any sign of
cracks, frayed straps, or any sign of damage. Replace if found. If the Safety
Helmet has sustained a forcible impact, dispose of the helmet even if damage
is not visible. Clean with mild detergent/disinfectants in lukewarm water.
Avoid using abrasive chemicals, paints, or any other solvents as they may
destroy the impact resistance along with any other protective properties.
STORAGE AND SHELF LIFE
Store in a container with foam/paper cushion away from direct sunlight to
avoid damage. Suspension should be replaced after every 12 months of use.
Always replace the helmet if it withstood an impact or penetration. If the
helmet was used in an outdoor setting everyday without any impact then discard
after 2 years of use. If used indoors and for occasional use, replace every 5S
years.
WARNING
Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious personal injury
or death. Type C helmets are NOT to be used in an Electrical Environment
setting, Type E are. Type 1 helmets are tested only at the top portion of the
helmet, for side protection Type II helmets are to be used.
Never store any items between the suspension and helmet. Never alter, modify
this helmet in any way or use it as a vehicle or sports helmet
