Installation Guide
Feature Battens on Ceilings with no Acoustic Backing
-
Make sure the ceiling is straight and flat.
-
Mark out the ceiling to the desired batten spacing.
-
Screw fix the batten connector (ZBC for smaller battens & ZBCHD for larger battens) on the ceiling making sure the screws go into a solid fixing behind the ceiling lining.
-
If battens are supplied slightly over size, cut these to length.
-
Screw or adhesive fix small sections of the batten infill into the back machined groove in the back of the batten, ensure these are spaced approximately 600mm apart and line up with where the solid fixing is in the ceiling. Drill a pilot hole for screw fixing to ensure the batten doesn’t split & if adhesive fixing ensure you use a non-expanding adhesive e.g. Selley’s Liquid Nails Fast Grab High Strength.
-
Clip the battens onto the batten connectors using a block and hammer. Carefully tap the batten into place. Take care not to mark the batten or the pre-finished wall
-
If end caps are required glue these into place, this process can be done before the battens are clipped into place if required.
-
Remove any dust & clean down battens
Feature Battens on Suspended Ceilings with Acoustic Backing
- Make sure the ceiling is straight and flat.
- Mark out the ceiling for the panel frame installation. Ensure there is a panel frame at both sides of the ceiling then divide the middle area evenly with the aim of the panel frames being at approximately 600mm centers.
- Cut the panel frame to length then starting from one side of the ceiling, screw fix the panel frame (ZPF12 for 12mm backing & ZPF25 for 25mm backing) onto the Rondo furring channel (or similar).
- Cut the acoustic backing sheets with a rail saw or a sharp Stanley knife to the right width ensuring a nice square cut. Sheets are 1220mm wide so if the panels frames are at approximately 600mm centers there is very minimal waste.
- Work your way across the ceiling installing the panel frame then the backing which sits inside the panel frame profile.
- Mark out the fronts of the panel frames to the desired spacings of the battens.
- Cut the batten connector to length (ZBC for smaller battens & ZBCHD for larger battens) and screw fix these onto the panel frames. Drill a pilot hole though the panel frame to ensure the screw does not snap.
- If battens are supplied slightly over size, cut these to length.
- Screw or adhesive fix small sections of the batten infill into the back machined groove in the back of the batten, ensure these are spaced approximately 600mm apart and line up with where the solid fixing is in the wall. Drill a pilot whole for screw fixing to ensure the batten doesn’t split & if adhesive fixing ensure you use a non-expanding adhesive e.g. Selley’s Liquid Nails Fast Grab High Strength.
- Clip the battens onto the batten connectors using a block and hammer. Carefully tap the batten into place. Take care not to mark the batten or the pre-finished wall. On a suspended ceiling a cramp may be required to stop the ceiling moving upward. If required use a cramp that goes from the bottom of the batten to the top side of the furring channel and squeeze the batten into place.
- If end caps are required glue these into place, this process can be done before the battens are clipped into place if required.
- Remove any dust & clean down battens.

Feature Battens on Walls with Acoustic Backing
- Make sure the wall is straight and plumb
- Mark out the wall for the panel frame installation. Ensure there is a panel frame at the top & the bottom of the wall then divide the middle area evenly with the aim of the panel frames being at approximately 600mm centers.
- Cut the panel frame to length then starting from the bottom of the wall, horizontally screw fix the panel frame (ZPF12 for 12mm backing & ZPF25 for 25mm backing) onto timber or steel studs.
- Cut the acoustic backing sheets with a rail saw or a sharp Stanley knife to the right width ensuring a nice square cut. Sheets are 1220mm wide so if the panels frames are at approximately 600mm centers there is very minimal waste.
