Safety instructions

Lifting and moving people always involves risks.
Therefore, you should carefully read the user manuals for the lift and lifting equipment.
Always make sure the lifting equipment you are using is intended for use with a lift.
As a care provider, you are responsible for the client’s safety and you must know whether the client will be able to cope with the lifting process.
The sling must be fit to meet the customer’s specific needs.
If you are in any doubt, please contact the supplier.

  • Take out a careful visual inspection of the sling every time you use it.

  • Check that the correct sling is being used for the client. The model, size and material must meet the customer’s requirements.

  • Plan the moving and lifting process so that it is as safe as possible.

  • Before lifting the client, check that the sling is correctly attached to the lift/hanger bar once the lift bars are taut.

  • It is important that the hooks of the hanger bars are in the correct position, with the openings of the hooks on both sides facing upwards to catch the securing straps. Check the position of the hook once the lift straps are stretched.

  • It is always important to check that the threads are all on the bottom of the hook (see pictures) and are securely positioned below the locking pin on all hooks.

  • Check that the client is sitting securely in the sling before starting to lift him/her.

  • Check that the lift is balanced when lifting and/or lowering the customer. If you are using a human care lift with a telescopic hanger bar, it is important that the bar hooks are in the same position on both sides.

  • Our slings are designed and tested for indoor use with one customer at a time and are only used for transferring one person. This product is not a swing.

  • Make sure no sharp objects are in contact with the sling.

Suspension option

Our slings are designed with the premise that all people are different with different lifting needs, requirements or desires.
It is possible in our slings to make all our customers feel comfortable
, many of them can be used with 2 or 3-point suspension. Some slings can also be used with 4-point suspension. The options are displayed below.

–point suspension
suitable for many lifting positions to provide a good sitting position. Available with 2-point suspension floor lift, fixed and portable roof lift.
Two-point suspension with crossed leg support: through the strap on one leg section before attaching the strap to the hanger bar on the other leg section.

Two-point suspension with overlapping leg support: This method is suitable for lifting clients with the so-called legs, for the former. Extension straps may be attached to lifting straps to prevent the client from leaning too far back into a sitting position.

Two-point suspension with separate leg support: Place the client’s feet on each leg section and attach the hanger bar to the lifting strap. Note: This method increases the risk of the client sliding out of the sling

An individual assessment of a customer’s needs should always be made before choosing an alternative connection method.

–point suspension
provides a longer sitting position and more weight distribution.
3-point suspension is especially suitable for customers who carry an increased risk of pressure sores or need more room for the upper body.

Thread the left leg section through the loop on the right leg section.
Attach the leg section lifting straps to the leg hooks and the rear section lifting straps to the lift.

–Point suspension

makes a spacious seating position suitable for larger clients or when using a stretcher.
4-point suspension is available with both fixed and portable roof lifts or floor lifts.

Compatibility

Human care group slings are designed for use with all human care lifts and hanger bars.
The products are also compatible with products from other suppliers that use the same attachment method for securing slings to hanger bars and lifts. However, due to the wide range of products worldwide, Human Care cannot be held responsible for any defects that may result from the improper use or use of combinations of slings, hanger bars and lifts from other suppliers.
Use of the combined system is at the prescriber’s own risk and responsibility.
To ensure client and caregiver safety, Human Care recommends the following minimum requirements:

  1. When using slings with lift and hanger bars, made by manufacturers other than Human Care, it is necessary to design the combined system floor lift and roof lift with the same sling attachment method for the hanger bar, loop style slings combined with a loop are Style hanger bar, clip style slings are combined with a clip style hanger bar.

  2. The attached patient lifts and slings must be CE marked according to the Medical Device Directive, MDD 93/42/ EEG and/or MDR 2017/75 and comply with the standard requirements for patient lifts as stated in EN ISO 10535.

  3. Caregivers must follow the manufacturer’s instruction manuals and recommendations regarding the use, care, client, caregiver, cleaning, and inspection of slings and lifts.

  4. Different products in assembled lift system: eg, lift, hanger bar, sling, scale and other accessories may have different maximum. load It is always the minimum maximum allowable load indicated for the system applicable for the respective products and the entire system.
Always check the markings on all individual products in the system.

  5. Individual risk assessment, including a practical test of the system with the specific combination used to confirm that the size of the sling is correct for the intended use and suitable for the width and design of the hanger bar. The combined system needs to be documented by a competent assessor.

If there are any questions, please contact your local human care office or distributor.

Sling application

Activity Sling

Raising the patient from the lying position

  1. The Activity Sling is worn while the baby is sleeping. Start by sliding it over the baby’s feet.

  2. Place the child’s arm through the side opening. Pull the sling as far behind the child’s neck as possible.

  3. Raise the child to a standing position. Place one hand behind the baby’s head, if the sling is not fully extended. The baby’s head should be below the top of the sling.

Multi Sling The
Multi Sling has four lifting straps: two in front and two behind the chest belt. The photos show two-point suspension, but the Multi Sling is also approved for three- and four-point suspension. Please note that patients must have partial use of their legs to be able to use the Multi Sling.

Personal hygiene, dressing and undressing

  1. Begin by passing the elastic waist belt (use) through the loops inside the chest belt. Place the belt around the patient’s waist and tighten the waist belt. Fasten the chest belt. You can do this while the patient is lying down or sitting up. The tighter you make the waist belt, the better the sling will stay in place when lifting the patient.

  2. Attach the rear lifting straps to the lift bar. As you begin to lift the patient, he will begin to lean forward a little. The procedure is easier if the patient can hold onto something for stability and to assist in the lifting process. It is often enough to raise the patient 10 to 30 cm or dress him. Make sure the patient is stable when lifting.

  3. Because all four straps are being used, the patient will be in a more upright position. Please note that the more weight the lifting strap supports, the greater the risk of the chest belt moving up.

Exercise

  2. The chest belt can be used separately for support during walking, standing and balance exercises.

  3. For increased safety, the groin support can be attached to the chest belt. The groin support also keeps the chest belt in place and prevents it from moving up.

  4. When working with people with severe functional impairment, for example stroke victims, the hip belt can be used with the chest belt. It is designed to put equal pressure on both hip joints. The aim is to achieve good balance and evenly distribute the patient’s weight.

Troubleshooting

Description work
The client is at risk of moving out • The sling may be too large.

• The sling is not fitted properly- the length of the loops should be stretched at the same time.
The client is unbalanced when picked up| • Instructions in the individual test log are not followed or a new assessment is required.
The bag is too small| • It may be uncomfortable for the client. The sling may cut into the client’s flesh and/or may not have enough back support.

Note:  It is important that the correct sling is used for each client and is individually tested to ensure that it meets the client’s needs and transfer conditions.
