Product Information
The Tapo C425 is a smart wire-free security camera designed to provide full- featured weatherproof surveillance. It can be accessed remotely from anywhere using the Tapo app. The camera is equipped with motion sensors that trigger instant notifications and feeds when motion is detected. Additionally, it features an automatic siren system that activates light and sound to deter unwanted visitors. The Tapo camera ensures the protection of your belongings day or night, regardless of weather conditions.

Status LED Indication
The status LED on the Tapo C425 camera provides the following indications:
- Blinking amber quickly for 3 seconds: Plugging in USB charger
- Solid red: Starting up
- Blinking red and green: Ready for setup
- Blinking red slowly: Connecting to Wi-Fi
- Solid amber: Connected to Wi-Fi
- Solid green: Connected to the cloud
- Blinking red quickly: Camera resetting
- Blinking green quickly: Camera updating
Charging the Battery
The Tapo C425 camera comes with a partially charged battery. It is recommended to fully charge the battery before use. This can be done by using the included 5V 2A USB charger, which takes approximately five and a half hours to complete.
Product Usage Instructions
Step 1: Download Tapo App
To begin using your Tapo C425 camera, download the Tapo app from the App
Store or Google Play. Alternatively, you can scan the provided QR code to
directly access the app.
Step 2: Log In
Open the Tapo app and log in using your TP-Link ID. If you don’t have an
account, create one before proceeding.
Step 3: Add Your Camera
In the Tapo app, tap the “Add Device” button and select your camera model.
Follow the on-screen instructions provided by the app to complete the setup
process.

If you prefer to use Amazon Frustration-Free Setup, follow these steps:
What is Amazon Frustration-Free Setup?
Amazon Frustration-Free Setup is an alternative method for setting up your
Tapo device.
LED Indications during Amazon Frustration-Free Setup:
- Blinking red and green: Ready for setup
- Blinking amber: FFS setup in progress
- Solid green: Working properly
If the LED does not turn solid green after a significant amount of time, you can manually add the Tapo device by following these steps:
- Press the Reset button on your Tapo device once.
- Open the Tapo app.
- Tap the “+” button on the page.
- Select your device model.
- Follow the app instructions to complete the setup.

you can access from anywhere. Receive instant notifications and check feeds
when the motion is detected. Moreover, the automatic siren system will trigger

Open the cover. Insert a microSD card* and initialize it on the Tapo app for local recording.

Reset Button
Open the cover. Use a pin to press and hold for at least 5 seconds to reset the camera to factory default settings. -

Charge the Battery
The battery comes partially charged. We recommend that you fully charge the battery before use. This will take about five and a half hours with the included charger.
Note:
- Peel off film from the camera before use.
- Warning: Do not tear off the silicone part by force as it may affect the waterproof performance.
- When you plug in the USB charger, the LED should blink amber quickly for 3 seconds. If not, make sure the power is running and check your connection.
- Charge the battery using the USB cable and charger included in the package. Inappropriate cables may result in slow charging or failure to charge.
- Keep the ports firmly covered when not in use to ensure waterproof performance.
- Check the battery status in the Tapo app after setup.
Set Up Your Camera
Follow the steps below to get started with your new camera.
Step 1. Download Tapo App
Get the Tapo app from the App Store or Google Play, or by scanning the QR code
below.
Step 2. Log In
Open the app, and log in with your TP-Link ID. If you don’t have an account,
create one first.
Step 3. Add Your Camera
Tap the button in the app and select your model. Follow app instructions to
complete the setup.
Set Up Using Amazon Frustration-Free Setup
What is Amazon Frustration-Free Setup?
Amazon Frustration-Free Setup can help connect and set up Tapo smart devices
in fewer steps, without having to remember and re-enter your Wi-Fi password on
each device.
To use this feature, confirm the following:
- The new Tapo device supports Amazon FFS.
- The new Tapo device is purchased from Amazon.
- You have an Amazon FFS enabled Alexa device or router.
- You have saved your Wi-Fi information to Amazon by using Alexa echo.
- Your Tapo device and router are on the same network as your Alexa echo.

If the LED does not turn solid green after a long time, you can try to add the Tapo device manually. (Press the Reset button on your Tapo device once. Then open the Tapo app, tap the + button on the page, select your device model, and follow the app instructions. )
How to use Amazon Frustration-Free Setup with Tapo devices
- Open the Amazon Alexa app. Then tap More and select Skills & Games.
- Enter Tapo in the search bar and choose Tapo.
- Tap the ENABLE TO USE button.
- Log in with your TP-Link ID that has bound to your Tapo device, and tap Authorize. After authorized successfully, the message Tapo has been successfully linked will come up.
- Plug in your Tapo device and the setup will complete automatically in two minutes.
For setting up more Tapo devices, just plug in and enjoy!
Done!
If this device displays on the Home page in the Tapo app, it indicates this
device has been successfully associated with your Amazon account and joined
your Wi-Fi network automatically.
If this device does not display on the Home page in the Tapo app, try setting
it up manually. (Tap the + button on the page, select your device model, and
then follow the app instructions.)
Mounting Tips
Read mounting tips before your mount the camera.
- Avoid placing behind glass. Glass will obstruct the motion sensor of your camera.
- Choose a proper location to mount your camera, or it will be triggered too often by false alarms.
- Avoid pointing the camera directly at swaying trees.
- Avoid pointing the camera directly at vehicles and pedestrians on the road.
- Avoid pointing the camera directly at street lamps and sunlight.
- Mount your camera to the side so that movement goes across the len’s field of view to better trigger motion detection.
- Tilt the camera downwards at an angle of about 20°.
- Do not place the camera upside down.
- Keep the motion sensor level for best results.
Mount Your Camera
When you finish adding your camera in the Tapo app, you can follow the steps below to mount the camera.
Note: You can always get detailed mounting instructions in the Tapo app.
Option 1: Mount to metallic surfaces
The camera has a magnet in its base, allowing magnetic attachment to metallic
surfaces.
CAUTION
Strong Magnet. Crushing Hazard.
Option 2: Stick to a clean wall
-
Attach the included adhesive to the back of the metal plate properly.
Note: The adhesive is for one-time use. Avoid re-using the adhesive to ensure its adhesion. -
Wipe off the dust from the surface, stick the metal plate with the adhesive to the clean wall, and press it down for 15 seconds to ensure the plate is firmly attached. Then attach the camera to the plate.
Note: This is applicable with tile, glass, marble, metal, stainless steel, and hard wall surfaces. Sticking to other surfaces may result in damage from falling off.
Option 3. Mount to a wall
- Stick the mounting template to a desired mounting place. Drill two holes according to the template.
- Insert two anchors into the holes and use the screws to affix the metal plate over the anchors. Then attach the camera to the plate.
Note: At 2 meters (6.5 feet) or higher, we recommend using the Wall Mount Bracket (not included). Recommended Installation Height: 2 ~ 3 m (7 ~ 10 ft) above the ground
Work with Tapo Solar Panel
The Tapo Solar Panel charges your Smart Wire-Free Security Camera continuously.
If you don’t yet have a Tapo Solar Panel, charge the rechargeable battery with
a standard and high-quality DC 5V/2A battery charger. Keep the charging port
firmly covered when fully charged.
Note: If you use a third-party solar panel to charge this camera, we
cannot guarantee the waterproof performance.
