Chamber Music Society 2024 Young Ensembles Program

Product Information: Young Ensembles Program 2024
The Young Ensembles Program 2024 is designed for middle school and junior high school chamber ensembles. It provides an opportunity for students to showcase their musical talents and receive coaching from artists associated with the Chamber Music Society. The program is open to students in public or private schools and homeschool consortiums.

  • All students in the ensemble must attend the same middle/junior high school or homeschool consortium at the time of application as well as at the time of performance.
  • All students in the ensemble must actively participate in their school music programs, such as orchestra, band, or chamber music club.
  • The application must be submitted by the school music teacher on behalf of their students.
  • Pre-professional or community music schools are not eligible to participate.

Repertoire
Ensembles should select a single movement or single movement work from the chamber music repertoire. Original student compositions are also acceptable. The chosen music should match the players’ abilities. Works for two pianos are not eligible. Ensembles involving percussion must provide their own percussion instruments.

Application
To apply, the school music teacher needs to fill out the online application form. The form allows for progress to be saved, and an email will be sent with a link to return to the partially completed form. The application requests information such as the school name, address, phone, principal name, teacher name, phone, email address, ensemble type, repertoire details (name of piece, key, opus, movement, approximate timing), and ensemble personnel names, instruments, and grades.

Recordings
Audio or video recordings are acceptable, with video recordings being preferred. Videos should be uploaded to YouTube as unlisted videos via a Gmail or YouTube account. The link to the video should be provided in the online application form. If submitting an audio recording, a link to a shared folder (e.g., Dropbox, WeTransfer) should be included in the online application form. It is important to name the videos/files following the format: School Name_Composer_Piece_Movement (e.g., Pleasantville_Brahms_Trio in A minor_01).

Selection Process
All materials must be received by 5:00 pm Thursday, March 28, 2024. Music teachers will be notified of the results of the selection process by Friday, April 5, 2024.

Coaching Sessions
Selected ensembles will have two one-hour coaching sessions scheduled at Lincoln Center on Saturday, May 11 and 19, 2024. These sessions will be conducted by artists associated with the Chamber Music Society. To indicate the availability for coaching sessions on these days, When2Meet should be used. Detailed instructions on creating a schedule for each ensemble and adding availabilities for each member can be found here.

Note: The information provided here is a summary of the user manual/instructions. For complete and accurate details, please refer to the original user manual or instructions. Middle and junior high school and homeschool consortium chamber ensembles (one person on a part) may submit an application to be considered for participation. Ensembles will be selected to receive professional coaching by Chamber Music Society artists. The ensembles will then be presented in a culminating performance on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM in the Daniel and Joanna S. Rose Studio at Lincoln Center.
