GENERAL INFORMATION
These instructions describe the use of single and double lanyards. Single and double lanyards have been designed for use with personal protective equipment that meets standards currently in force. Ensure the compatibility of all the belay system items with each other and that none of the items of the safety system affects the operation and safety features of another item. These lanyards are intended to protect the user from the risk of a fall while at anchor Lanyards have a tensile strength greater than 15 Kn. We recommend you pay attention to the effects, on their own or combined, of moisture, frost or the presence of knots on the rope that constitutes the lanyard. These effects reduce the resistance of the lanyard as well as making it more difficult to handle. Remember to protect your product from sharp edges. Contact with sharp edges may lead to wear, or even unexpectedly break the rope. Be sure to check the condition of your equipment regularly.
OPERATION
Installation of carabiner(s) (Figure 1)
On the end(s) of the lanyard (D), we strongly recommend the use of a carabiner
with locking system (carabiner that conforms to standard EN 12275). To install
the carabiner on the end of the lanyard, you need to pass it through the loop
(D) at the end of the lanyard and into the hole in the carabiner blocker. To
make it easier to feed through, you can moisten the carabiner with water.
Fitting the harness (Figure 2)
Tie a lark’s head using the entire setup: pass the fastening buckle in the
harness strap, then feed the end(s) of the lanyard into the fastening buckle.
Use
SIMOND lanyards are designed and made with dynamic ropes, allowing you to tie
into a relay under optimal safety conditions. To ensure the best safety
conditions, you must make sure you comply with the following two rules:
1/ The lanyard should remain in tension as much as possible 2/ The tie-in
point must be below the anchor point (Figure 3). You must never go above the
anchor point of the relay. The impact force resulting from such a fall could
lead to serious injury or death (fall factor greater than 1).
Using a double lanyard
A double lanyard offers an extra line allowing you to tie in short or long.
Other uses, such as attaching a belay device for rappelling, are dependent on
your level of knowledge and expertise in climbing and mountaineering.
Main restriction of use: (Figure 4)
Single and double lanyards are not energy absorbers. As a result, their use on
via ferrata is strictly prohibited and may result in a risk of serious injury
or death in case of a fall.
MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE
Maintenance
To clean your lanyard, use warm water and mild soap. Be sure to rinse
thoroughly to remove all traces of soap. Allow it to dry in the open air, away
from light and heat. If you need to use your lanyard in salt air, be sure to
rinse it with clear water after use and allow it to dry in the open air. As
regards looking after your carabiner, you should refer to its instructions for
use.
Storage
Store your equipment in a dry, cool and well-ventilated place away from light.
Avoid any contact with chemicals or corrosive substances of any kind, as their
effects on the rope would be harmful. Take care not to expose your lanyard to
a tempe-rature below -40°C or above 80°C. Thus, you should never leave your
product inside a car in direct sunlight, for example.
MODIFICATIONS AND REPAIRS
Any modification or repair of the product is forbidden. Pur-chase of «used» equipment is strongly discouraged because its history could be falsified.
VERIFICATION AND LIFE SPAN
Verification
Before and after each use, check the good condition of your equipment:
- check that there are no cuts or signs of wear and tear on the rope caused by abrasion or burns,
- check that the stitching is in good condition, and particularly that the thread used is not damaged.
A more detailed inspection should be carried out at least once a year by a qualified person. Your lanyard is prone to ageing. Its characteristics reduce over time, so remember to replace it regularly.
Life span
The maximum life span of SIMOND products, beginning from the manufacture date,
is indicated on the product: storage duration: up to 5 years before first use
in good conditions Duration of use:
- intensive use: 3 months to 1 year
- average use: 2 to 3 years
- regular but occasional use: 4 to 5 years
- This lifespan is defined as starting with the product’s date of manufacture, information available on the label (F). The year (4 numbers) and month (2 numbers) of manufacture are printed on it. The life span depends on the frequency and type of use. Use of the lanyard, due to mechanical stress, friction, UV and moisture, causes ageing and wear. The lanyard may suffer irreparable and invisible damage from its first use. If it stops a heavy fall, the lanyard must no longer be used. As long as your equipment complies with the requirements des-cribed above, you can use it. If you have any queries on the status of the product, have a competent and trained person check it or destroy it.
WARRANTY
SIMOND lanyards are guaranteed against defects in work-manship for a period of 2 years from the date of purchase of this product. Normal wear and tear as well as any damage resulting from improper use or a modification to the product are not covered by the warranty.
MEANING OF MARKINGS
