First steps and commissioning of the product

During the day, the solar panel absorbs sunlight and stores it as electricity in a battery. As soon as it gets dark, the LED lamp switches on automatically and releases the previously stored energy in the form of light. Please note that the term depends very much on the requirements. The hours of sunshine in winter are very limited, which in turn leads to reduced performance compared to the summer months when the sun is shining. With 10 hours of sunshine during the day, the LED lights up 6 – 8 hours in the evening.

  1. Take the item out of the packaging and check the item for completeness.

  2. Take the lantern head and press the cover of the entire lantern up by pressing on the opposing arrows located on the upper edge of the housing.

  3. Turn the cover with the solar panel downwards so that you can see the underside.

  4. You can now see the ON/OFF switch on the underside of the cover.

  5. Move the switch from „OFF“ to „ON“ and check that the product is working by briefly holding your hand tightly over the solar panel. The LED light should come on when the solar panel is in darkness. If this was successful, press the cover back onto the housing.

  6.  Screw the metal connecting rods into one another.
Then plug the end of the metal connecting rods into the base. Place the lantern head, switched on, onto the end of the connecting rods.

  7. You can now find a suitable position in the sun for your solar lantern. You can secure the LED solar lantern in soft ground using the pegs provided.

  8. If the light does not come on in darkness after at least 6 hours of sunlight, check the following:

    • Check whether the „ON/OFF“ switch is set to „ON“.
    • Please check again that the internal batteries are in contact with both poles.
    • Check whether the lantern is in a sunny location. The solar panel must be directly facing the sun. It is possible that the batteries may have been damaged in transit.
  9. If the light becomes weaker over time, then you should change the batteries. To do this, simply push the cover of the lantern head up (press on the two opposing arrows on the housing simultaneously) and thus push the cover up. Place the cover on a soft cloth with the solar panel facing downwards. You can now loosen the 4 screws using a cross head screwdriver. Carefully lift the cover off. The batteries in the battery compartment are revealed below. Carefully remove the old batteries from the battery compartment and replace them with new batteries of the same type. Take care to ensure correct polarity when inserting them. Screw the cover on using the screws previously removed. Place the cover back on the housing. The lantern is ready to use again.

Optimal position of the solar lantern

Place the solar lantern outdoors in a sunny location where the lantern gets direct sunlight for at least 6 hours (Fig. 4). Shady or covered locations impair the performance of the batteries because they cannot be fully recharged (Fig. 2). This may result in reduced capacity at night.

Troubleshooting

If the LED light does not switch on, this can have the following reasons:

  • The battery is not fully charged or needs to be replaced. Make sure the light is exposed to direct sunlight during the day.

  • If it is overcast, the battery will not fully charge and emit less light. To avoid these problems, please use the item on sunny days to fully charge the battery (fig. 1).
    Troubleshooting

  • The article must not be too close to other light sources (street lamps/garden lights), as these illuminate the solar panel with artificial light, which in turn means that the twilight sensor in the article is not activated and the article does not light up despite the darkness. (fig. 3).
    Troubleshooting

  • Dirty lens: if the article is not completely free of dust and dirt, this can reduce the performance of the battery and there is reduced/no light output.

Cleaning and care

WARNING! Never use solvents or scouring agents, hard brushes, metal or sharp objects for cleaning. Solvents are harmful to health and attack the plastic parts, abrasive cleaners and tools scratch the surface.

  1. Clean the item with a damp cloth and use a mild detergent if necessary.
  2. Dry the item well before putting it away.
  3. If the item will not be used for a long period of time, store it clean and protected from sunlight in a dry, cool place in the original packaging.
  4. It is important to keep the lens free of dust and dirt for optimal capture of sunlight. If the lens/panel is dirty, the battery cannot be fully charged; which negatively affects the life of the battery in the long run.

Storage

  • If you do not use the item for a long time, please remove the battery from the item to avoid the risk of battery leakage.
  • Clean the item as previously described and dry it well.
  • Store the item in its original packaging at a temperature that is as constant as possible (between + 15 °C to + 25 °C) and low humidity.

Information on battery disposal

The return of batteries and rechargeable batteries is free of charge. Some of the possible ingredients such as mercury, cadmium and lead are toxic and endanger the environment if not disposed of properly. Heavy metals, for example, can have adverse health effects on people, animals and plants and accumulate in the environment and in the food chain, only to enter the body indirectly via food. Old batteries containing lithium pose a high risk of fire. Special attention must therefore be paid to the proper disposal of used lithium batteries and accumulators. Incorrect disposal can also lead to internal and external short circuits due to thermal effects (heat) or mechanical damage. A short circuit can lead to a fire or an explosion and have serious consequences for people and the environment. Therefore, before disposing of lithium containing batteries and accumulators, tape off the poles in order to avoid an external short circuit. Batteries and rechargeable batteries that are not permanently installed in the device must be removed before disposal and disposed of separately. Batteries and rechargeable batteries should only be handed in when they are discharged! Whenever possible, use rechargeable batteries instead of single-use batteries.

    | Disposal symbol for electronic devices|
Old devices must not be disposed of in the household waste! If the device can no longer be used, every consumer is legally obliged to dispose of old devices separately from household waste, e.g. at a collection point in his community/district. This ensures that the old devices are recycled professionally and negative effects on the environment are avoided. For this reason, electronic devices are marked with the symbol shown. Consumers have the option of handing in an old device free of charge to a distributor who is obliged to take it back if they purchase a new device of the same value with essentially the same function. This possibility also exists for deliveries to a private household. At the conclusion of the sales contract, the distributor informed the consumer about a corresponding to inquire about the intention to return. Apart from that, consumers can hand in up to three old devices of a device type to a distributor‘s collection point free of charge, without this being linked to the purchase of one new device is linked. However, the edge length of the respective devices must not exceed 25 cm. Batteries and accumulators that are not firmly enclosed by the electrical or electronic device and can be removed without causing problems must be separated from the device at a collection point before it is handed in and taken to a designated disposal facility. The same goes for lamps that can be removed from the device without destroying it. Owners of electrical and electronic devices from private households can hand them in at the collection points of the public waste disposal authorities or at the collection points set up by the manufacturers or distributors within the meaning of the Elektro G. The disposal of old devices is free of charge. Consumers are encouraged to take measures to avoid waste. With regard to electrical and electronic equipment, this means extending its lifespan by repairing defective equipment and selling used equipment that is in good working order instead of sending it for disposal.
