SAFETY AND PRECAUTIONS

Before cycling, be aware of the following warnings:

  • Never ride a bicycle without a helmet and suitable goggles.
  • Make sure you always wear appropriate, bright, light-coloured clothing, as well as tight-fitting trousers or a trouser waistband and footwear adapted to the pedal system of your bicycle.
  • Always ride carefully and considerately on public roads and respect traffic rules so as not to endanger yourself and others.

This manual will not teach you how to ride a bicycle.

  • When cycling you should be aware that you are doing a potentially dangerous activity and that you have to keep the bike under control at all times.
  • You should therefore be aware from the very first metre that you are going much faster on your E-BIKE than on a traditional bicycle.
  • As in any other kind of sport, you can also get injured when riding a bike. When cycling you should be aware of this danger and accept it. You should be aware that cycling does not have the safety features of a car, e.g. a car body, an anti-lock braking system (ABS) or an airbag.
  • Never ride a bicycle if you are under the influence of medication, drugs or alcohol, or if you are tired.
  • Never carry another person on your MEGAMO bike and always keep both hands on the handlebars.
  • Respect the current legislation on the use of MEGAMO bicycles off-road and on public roads.
  • Respect nature when riding through forests and meadows. Only ride on marked and firm roads and tracks.
  • Your E-Bike will be limited to 25 km/h for your own safety and the laws in force.

TESTING BEFORE FIRST USE

In order to be able to travel on public roads, certain legal provisions must be observed. These regulations vary from country to country.
Ask your MEGAMO dealer about the legal regulations in your country or in the country where you intend to use your bicycle.

  1. Are you familiar with the brake system? Read your MEGAMO manual and check whether you can operate the front brake with the same brake lever you normally use (right or left). If this is not the case, have the assignment of the brake levers adapted before the first use in your facility.
Modern brakes may have a much better braking effect than older brakes. First carry out some brake tests outside normal traffic, on a flat, non-slippery surface. Slowly work your way up to higher braking capacities and speeds.

  2. Are you familiar with the type of gearbox and how it works? Have your MEGAMO dealer explain the shifting system to you and, if necessary, choose a place without traffic to familiarize yourself with your new shifting system.

  3. Are the saddle and handlebars correctly adjusted? The saddle should be adjusted so that your heel barely reaches the pedal when the saddle is at its lowest position, without having to tilt your hips.
Check if you still manage to touch the ground with the tip of your toes when sitting on the saddle.

  4. If your MEGAMO bike has clipless pedals: Have you ever ridden with the right shoes?Start practising carefully how to engage and disengage the shoes when the bike is stationary.

  5. If you have purchased a MEGAMO bike with suspension elements, we recommend that you have them adjusted by your MEGAMO dealer. Incorrect adjustment of the suspension elements can lead to malfunctions or damage to the suspension elements. In any case, the riding behaviour of the bike will be affected and you will not enjoy maximum safety on the road and maximum enjoyment of your bike.

QUICK FASTENERS, THRU AXLES AND TIGHTENING TORQUE

TIGHTENING TORQUES
It is essential that for your safety and to avoid possible damage, before you ride your E-BIKE MEGAMO bike for the first 50Km, you should have an expert mechanic or your local garage check the tightening torque of all the bolts that fasten the motor to the frame.

QUICK RELEASE LOCKS

  • Most MEGAMO bicycles are equipped with quick-release fasteners that allow components to be quickly adjusted, assembled and disassembled.
  • Each time you use your MEGAMO bike, you should check that all quick-release fasteners are tightened securely.
  • Handle quick-release fasteners with the utmost care, as your safety depends directly on them.
  • Practice the correct handling of quick-release fasteners in order to avoid accidents.

The quick-release essentially consists of two control elements:

  1. The lever on the side of the hub.
  2. The clamping nut on the opposite side of the hub, which adjusts the pre-load on a threaded rod (the quick-release shaft).

THRU AXLES ON MEGAMO BICYCLES

  • The thru axles give the fork and rear end high rigidity. This allows the MEGAMO bike to retain its riding stability even under high loads.
  • Today, the market offers a wide variety of thru-axle systems, some of which are quick-release fasteners. Others may require special tools for assembly and disassembly.
  • For all systems, make sure that the thru axles, dropouts on the fork and hub are clean before assembly. Clean the components with an absorbent cloth and, if necessary, with water and some detergent.

FITTING YOUR MEGAMO BIKE

  • Your size and body proportions determine the frame height of your MEGAMO bike.
  • You will be particularly interested in having sufficient freedom of movement in the crotch to avoid injury when you have to dismount quickly.
  • The choice of bike type determines more or less your body posture. However, some components of your MEGAMO bike are designed to adapt to your body proportions to a certain extent.
  • These include the seat post, handlebars and stem as well as the brake levers.
  • Since all adjustment work requires specialist knowledge, experience, special tools and manual dexterity, we recommend that you only carry out a position check.
  • Ask your MEGAMO dealer about the seating position or modifications you would like to make. They will be able to put your ideas into practice during an inspection of your bike in the workshop.
  • After every adjustment or assembly, it is essential to carry out the short inspection described in chapter “Testing before first use” and to test ride your bike in an untravelled area.

USE OF THE BATTERY AND CHARGER

  • Before using the charger, read these instructions carefully. Damage caused by improper operation is not the responsibility of the manufacturer.
  • Remove the battery if you do not use your RIDON for a longer period of time (for example, in winter).

Follow these simple steps to remove the battery:

megamo-RIDON-FS-504-Electric-Bike-fig-3

  • Store the battery in a dry place at a temperature between 5 and 20 °C. The state of charge should be 70 % of the full charge capacity.
  • Check the state of charge of the battery if it has not been used for more than two months and, if necessary, charge it to 70 %.
  • Clean the battery case with a dry or at most slightly damp cloth.
  • Under no circumstances should you use a high-pressure cleaner to clean the battery/electrical components or immerse the battery in water, as water may enter the battery and cause a short circuit.

megamo-RIDON-FS-504-Electric-Bike-fig-4

On the top of the battery you can find the button to check the status of the battery itself:

megamo-RIDON-FS-504-Electric-Bike-fig-5

When replacing the battery or charger (or parts thereof), use only original spare parts and always consult your MEGAMO dealer.
When the charger is plugged into an electrical outlet, you can use the LED light to guide you to the battery’s state of charge:

  • The red LED light indicates that the battery is low and will start charging.
  • The green LED light will turn on when the battery is fully charged.

IMPORTANT

  • Before any charging you must switch off your bike completely (including the display).
  • Always connect the charger to your bike before connecting it to the power supply, otherwise you may damage the battery charger and the battery will become unusable.

The correct order for connecting the battery to the mains is always to connect the charger to the battery first and then to the mains, otherwise a short- circuit may occur and render components of the E-BIKE unusable.Use only the original charger and lithium battery supplied with the bicycle. Other types of chargers or batteries can cause serious injury or irreversible damage to the bicycle. If the charger is damaged or no longer charges, contact the shop where you purchased the bike. Never open the battery yourself, as this may not only void the warranty, but may also cause serious injury.

Use the original battery only indoors or outdoors in dry conditions and never in damp, wet or rainy environments. Do not use the battery in very hot environments as this may cause the battery to stop working or even cause serious injury or damage to the bicycle.

FORK AND SUSPENSION

If the suspension elements are set too softly, the suspension element will no longer cushion irregularities and will thump when fully compressed.
Suspension elements should be adjusted and chosen so that this does not happen. If a suspension element knocks frequently, this will also damage the frame in the long run.

Warning: If you do not have the necessary technical knowledge and tools for adjustment, have the suspension elements adjusted by your specialist dealer.

Depending on the model, the vehicle may be equipped with a suspension fork and/or a suspension on the rear fork.
Suspension forks stop front wheel shocks and increase driving comfort and safety on uneven surfaces. The suspension fork should be chosen according to the purpose of use and the rider’s weight.

The rear suspension, mounted centrally between the front and rear frame, stops rear wheel shocks and increases riding comfort and safety on uneven surfaces. Rear suspension should be chosen according to the purpose of use and the rider’s weight. Rear suspensions further increase riding comfort and safety on uneven surfaces.

MAINTENANCE AND INSPECTION OF YOUR BICYCLE

Your official MEGAMO dealer delivers your bike ready for use. However, you must take regular care of your bike and have it checked regularly by your MEGAMO dealer. This is the only way to ensure the long-term function of all components.

The first service should be carried out after about 50 km or after 5 to 15 hours of use, after a period of four to six weeks. It is necessary to check and maintain the MEGAMO bike, because during the “running-in” of the bike, the spokes settle or the derailleur becomes loose, and it is very important to check the tightening torque of the motor fastening bolts. This process is unavoidable. So be sure to make an appointment with your MEGAMO dealer to have your new bike checked. This initial inspection is decisive for the function and service life of your MEGAMO bike.

The motor, battery, control elements and display do not require any further maintenance, except for the necessary regular charging of the battery.

Regular inspections and the timely replacement of wearing parts, e.g. chain, brake pads or brake and shift cables, are part of the intended use of your bike. This ensures a long and reliable function of the components and therefore influences the liability for damage caused by defective products and the warranty.

WEAR PARTS

  • By the nature of their function, some components of your bicycle are subject to wear. The degree of wear depends on maintenance and use (mileage, rides in the rain, dirt, salt, etc.).
  • MEGAMO bicycles that are always or frequently exposed to weather influences wear out faster than normal.
  • Regular care and maintenance increases the service life of the bike. However, the necessary components should be replaced when they have reached their wear limit.
