PARTS DIAGRAM

PRIOR TO INSTALLATION

  • Unpack the range hood and ensure all listed parts are in the box.
  • It is recommended for the vent system be installed before the hood is installed.
  • Before making cutouts, make sure there is proper clearance within the ceiling or walls for the exhaust vent.
  • It is recommended that a professional installer performs the range hood installation.

LOCATION REQUIREMENTS

This range hood has been designed to be wall-mounted, above a stove/hob. Before starting the installation, consideration should be given as to how the installation will be carried out, ensuring adequate space and clearance above the stove/hob. When installed, the range hood must be positioned at least 24in (61cm) and at most 30in (76cm) above the cooktop. NOTE: minimum of 30in (76cm) is required for a gas stove top. If the exhaust pipe is too long or there are too many bends, please select a suitable position to
install the range hood to ensure the appliance can suck in smoke efficiently. A straight or short duct run will allow the unit to perform most efficiently. Long duct runs, elbows, and transitions will reduce the performance of the unit.

Each elbow is equivalent to 5 to 10 feet (1.5 to 3.0 m) of straight run. Proper size ductwork should be 6 in. (15.2 cm) in diameter for RHW-3687 (36in) model and 8 in. (19.6 cm) for RHW-4813 (48in) model. If ductwork is already installed: ensure ductwork is free from debris and measures 6 in. (15.2 cm) in diameter for RHW-3687 (36in) model and 8 in. (20.3 cm) for RHW-4813 (48in) model. 1 in. (2.5 cm) reducers may be used but more than 1 in. (2.5 cm) will overwork the motor and the unit will not function properly.

VENTILATION REQUIREMENTS

  • This range hood must be ventilated to the outdoors.
  • Do not ventilate the range hood into an attic or other enclosed areas.
  • DO NOT use 4 in. (10.2 cm) laundry-type wall caps.
  • Use only metal/aluminum ductwork. A rigid metal/aluminum vent is recommended. Always keep the duct clean to ensure proper airflow.
  • DO NOT use a plastic vent.
  • Calculate the following figures before installation:
    • Distance from the floor to the ceiling.
    • Distance between the floor to the countertop/stove.
    • Distance between the cooking surface to the range hood (recommend 24” to 30”).NOTE: minimum of 30” is required for gas stovetops.
    • Height of hood and exhaust duct cover.
Height and Clearance

To reach a 9 ft (2.74 m) ceiling, make sure the range hood is installed at least 30 in. (762 mm) from the cooking surface.

FOR THE MOST EFFICIENT OPERATION

  • The minimum mount height between the cooktop to the hood bottom should be no less than 24’’ for electric cooktops or 30’’ for gas stove tops, and no higher than 30’’.
  • It is important to install the hood at the proper mounting height. Hoods mounted too low could result in heat damage or a fire hazard; while hoods mounted too high will be hard to reach and will lose its performance and efficiency.
  • It is recommended that the range hood be vented vertically through the roof through 6 in. (15.2 cm) in diameter for RHW-3687 (36in) model and 8 in. (20.3 cm) for RHW-4813 (48in) model, or bigger round metal/aluminum vent work.
  • The size of the vent should be uniform.
  • Use no more than three 90° elbows.
  • Make sure there is a minimum of 24” (61 cm) of straight vent between the elbows if more than one elbow is used.
  • DO NOT install two elbows together.
  • The length of the vent system and the number of elbows should be kept to a minimum to provide efficient performance.
  • The vent system must have a damper. If the roof or wall cap has a damper, DO NOT use a damper (if supplied) on top of the range hood.
  • Use HVAC foil tape or duct tape to seal all joints in the vent system.
  • Use caulking to seal the exterior wall or roof opening around the cap.
  • Due to different ceiling height configurations, recommended height may not be applicable.

ELECTRICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ensure there is the availability of an electrical power socket to power the range hood before fixing it to the wall. Observe all governing codes and ordinances. Ensure that the electrical installation is adequate and in accordance with the National Electrical Codes, ANSI/NFPA 70 (latest edition), all local codes, and ordinances.

  • – 110̃120V, 60 Hz., AC only, the fused electrical circuit is required.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

PREPARE LOCATION

  • It is recommended for the vent system to be installed before the hood is installed.
  • Before making cutouts, make sure there is proper clearance within the ceiling or walls for the exhaust vent.
  • Disconnect the power.
  • A minimum of 6” (RHW-3687 model) and 8” (RHW-4813 model) round or 3-1/4 x 10” rectangular duct (both purchased separately) must be used to maintain maximum airflow efficiency.
  • Always use rigid-type metal/aluminum ducts if available to maximize airflow when connecting to the provided duct.
  • Please use Duct Run Calculation below to compute the total available duct run when using elbows, transitions, and caps.
  • ALWAYS, when possible, reduce the number of transitions and turns. If a reducer is used, install a long reducer instead of a pancake reducer. Reducing duct size will restrict airflow and decrease airflow, thus reducing duct size as far away from the opening as possible.
  • If turns or transitions are required, install as far away from the opening and as far apart, between two (2), as possible.
  • Place a thick, protective covering over the countertop, cooktop, or range to protect from damage or dirt.
  • Remove any hazardous objects around the area when installing.

| Check if the range hood has been plugged in, make sure that all power has been turned back ON, fuse not blown and all electrical wiring are properly con- nected.
---|---
Swap out light assembly to working ones to deter- mine whether it is caused by defective bulbs. See Replacing the LED Lights on Page 15.
The range hood vibrates when the blower is on:| The range hood might not have been secured proper- ly on to the ceiling or wall.

The blower or fan seems weak:

| Check that the duct size used is at least 6 or 8 in. round (depending on the Range Hood model) or 3 1/4 x 10 in. rectangular.
Range hood WILL NOT function efficiently with insuf- ficient duct size. For example: 8 in. (20.3 cm) duct over 7 in. (17.8 cm) hole and loosely secured.
Check if duct is clogged or if damper unit (half-circu- lar flange) is not installed correctly or opening proper- ly. A tight mesh on a side wall cap unit might also cause restriction to the air flow.
The lights work but the fan is not spinning at all, is stuck or is rattling.| The fan might be jammed or scraping the bottom due to shipping damage.

The hood is not venting out properly.

| Make sure the distance between the stove top and the bottom of the hood is within 24 in. and 30 in. (61 and 76.2 cm) in distance, with minimum 30” for gas stove top.
