  • Comparative Work
    • Length/circumference of body features -Head, Chest, Neck, Arms, Hands, fingers etc.

  • Use of body features as a unit of measurement
    • How many hand spans in this table?
    • How many paces across is the classroom
    • How many hand spans make a pace? Are your hand spans the some as everyone else’s?
    • How many centimetres in a hand span?

  • Invent a new unit of measurement
    • Is it large or small?
    • Does it stay the same or change?
    • What’s it called?
    Use your new unit to measure the classroom/ playground/ table top and then draw a map on squared paper to show the position of trees/furniture/pencils etc.

  • Loo/ring at standard units
    • Measure in centimetres then in feet and inches/then in your new units.

  • Comparing sizes with other variables
    • Look for connections between the size of your body
    features and weight, height, sex, age etc.

  • Present your findings
    • Can you think up some exciting ways to show other classes what you have found out?
