Product Information

The Electric Weeder is a household device designed to eliminate weeds with hot air. Product Usage Instructions

  1. Before use, carefully read the instruction manual and safety notes to avoid any misunderstandings or damage.
  2. Make sure the voltage corresponds to the type label on the device.
  3. Plug in the device and switch it on using the ON/OFF switch (1).
  4. Adjust the temperature using the temperature switch (2).
  5. Hold the device by the handgrip (6) and direct the hot air nozzle towards the weeds to be eliminated.
  6. Do not point the device at the same place for a long time. Move it continuously to avoid overheating.
  7. When done, switch off the device using the ON/OFF switch (1) and unplug it from the socket.
  8. If you need to replace the nozzles or perform maintenance, always remove the plug from the socket.
  9. If you need to cool down the device, place it on its stand bracket (8) and allow it to cool down completely before storing it.
  10. Always wear eye protection and be careful when using the device near combustible materials.

  • If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or its service agent or a similarly qualified person, in order to avoid a hazard.
  • Do not allow the hot parts of the device to touch the cord or other flammable materials.
  • Failure to follow all instruction listed below may result in electric shock, fire and/or serious injury.
  •  When operating a device outdoors, use an extension cord suitable for outdoor use. Use of a cord suitable for outdoor use reduces the risk of electric shock.
  • When operating the device in moist environment, always use the device in conjunction with a residual circuit breaker unit. The use of a residual circuit breaker unit reduces the risk of electric shock.
  • Be careful when using the device near combustible materials.
  • Never point the device at the same place for long time.
  • Do not work with the device in explosive atmospheres, such as in the presence of flammable liquids, gasses or dust,
  • Pay attention to the direct/indirect workspace. The heat can ignite flammable materials, which are not in the field of view.
  •  During cooling down, the device can be placed on its stand bracket (8) to allow it to cool down.
  • Use safety equipment. Always wear eye protection. Safety equipment such as dust mask, non-skid safety shoes, hard hat, or hearing protection used for appropriate conditions will reduce personal injuries.
  • Make sure the device has completely cooled down before storing.
  • Caution: Before cleaning and maintenance, unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Store idle devices out of the reach of children and do not allow persons unfamiliar with the device or these instructions to operate the device. Devices are dangerous in the hands of untrained users.

Hints

Before first Use

  • Remove the device from the packaging. Keep packaging material out of reach of small children. There is risk of suffocation!
  • Make sure the mains lead and the mains plug are in a good state: strong, without ravels or damages.
  • Caution is advised when using long extension cables.
  • Do not use the device under moist circumstances.
  • The metal nozzle gets hot. Watch out and do not touch the nozzle.
  • Prevent damage of the heating element. Do not lock or block the nozzle.
  • Do not leave the device unsupervised when switched on.
  • When in operation do not point the device at people or animals.
  • Never look into the hot air nozzle.
  • Do not use this device in rain, damp surroundings, or near explosive or flammable products.
  • Do not use the device on or near very dry spots to avoid fire.
  • Always remove the plug from the socket when not using the device, when replacing the nozzle or during maintenance of the device.
  • Do not point the device at the same place for longer periods of time.
  • Do not hold the device too close to the surface about to be worked on as the device can overheat.
  • Pay attention to the direct/indirect workspace as the heat can ignite flammable materials, which are close by but not necessarily in view.
  • Do not allow the hot parts of the device to touch the cord or other flammable materials.
  • The device should always be clean, dry and free of grease and oil.
  • Do not use the device for purposes other than for which it is intended.
  • This device operates at a temperature of 600 degrees without visible signs of this temperature (no flames); still there is a chance of fire risk. Watch out for the hot air stream from the nozzle. This air stream can cause burns.

Operation

When operating the Device

  • When operating the device, vapours and gas can be released during a short time. This can be harmful for your health. Asthmatics can suffer hindrance of it.
  • Before connecting the plug to the mains voltage please check if the switch is in position “0”.
  • Keep the mains lead always away from the nozzle of the device.
  • Keep children and animals away from the device during operation.
  • Keep all parts of the body away from the metal heating head. Do not touch it before it is cooled down. There is risk of burns!
  • Always carry the device by the handle.
  • Hold the device by insulated gripping surfaces only, because the metal heating head may contact hidden wiring or its own cord.

During Operation

  • Always use with caution! Do NOT cover the ventilation openings during use.
  • There is risk of burns! Do not touch the hot nozzle!

Temperature Settings
With the temperature switch you can select two temperature settings. Depending on the application, you can use the following settings:

  • Position I: 50° C (venting/cooling),
  • Position II: 600° C.

Cord Retainer
NOTICE:
Always use the cord retainer to properly attach the extension cord to the device. By doing this the extension cord cannot be pulled loose accidentally while using.

Technical Data

Switching ON
To turn on the device pull the ON/OFF switch (1) to the position I or II. To turn off the device push back the switch (1) to the position 0.

How to install the Nozzle
The nozzle can be pushed over the hot air nozzle. Turn the nozzle to lock it with the bayonet lock.
Do not touch the nozzle during or immediately after use of the device. The nozzle is very hot.

Mounting the Extension Handle
The extension handle contains for two parts. Fasten both parts together and attach the extension handle to the device. Make sure that the extension handle firmly clicks into position.
Always operate the device with the extension handle.

Operation

  1. Ensure the extension handle is firmly fixed onto the device and that the device is turned off.
  2. Install the nozzle (9). Insert the plug into the socket.
  3. Make sure the nozzle is not blocked before turning the device on. Set the temperature to the setting II. Allow the device about 45 seconds to warm up.
  4. To eliminate weeds, hold the nozzle over the weeds for about 5 seconds. During this time the cell structure of the weed is destroyed. As a result, the weed dies within a few days.
    It is not necessary to completely burn the weeds, 5 seconds is more than sufficient.
    For an efficient treatment the nozzle should be held around 0 to 5 cm above the weeds.
    The effects are not visible immediately but will take a while before they can be seen. It is more of a long-term effect.

Cooling
Before turning off the device, it must be cooled first.

  1. Select temperature setting I for at least one minute.
  2. The device can be switched off thereafter.

During cooling down, the device can be placed on its stand bracket (8) to allow it to cool down.

Cleaning and Storing

  • Before cleaning and maintenance unplug from the power mains.
  • Make sure that the device has completely cooled down before storing.
  • Regularly clean the device housing with a soft cloth, preferably after each use.
  • Keep the ventilation slots free from dust and dirt.
  • If the dirt does not come off use a soft cloth moistened with soapy water. Never use solvents such as petrol, alcohol, ammonia water, etc. These solvents may damage the plastic parts.
