Battery Maintainer
PLEASE READ before using Maintainer. The term battery will be used to reference a single battery or multiple battery pack; wired in series or parallel. Contact Schauer Chargers with any questions prior to operation.
IMPORTANT! Reverse polarity connection will blow output fuse and may
permanently damage maintainer circuity,,. Take care to correctly connect
battery clips to proper battery terminals — Red Positive clamp to first
battery in series Positive post and Black Negative clamp to last battery in
series Negative post. Incorrect connection not across complete battery pack
will cause battery over voltage on connected batteries and may cause damage,
fire or explosion.
This unit is a battery maintainer (max. 2.5 amps), not a battery charger. This
maintainer will keep a fully charged buttery at a proper maintenance charge.
Caution! Safety precautions must be observed to avoid injury, electrical
shock and/or fire!
- For use with 120 Volts AC mains electrical service: USA, Canada. (not 240 VAC compatible)
- Always check for proper water level in battery prior to maintaining
- Be sure your battery is not drawing any load from equipment or instruments while you are maintaining.
- Before connecting or disconnecting maintainer to battery, turn power switch off and unplug from AC outlet
- Maintainer must be plugged into a grounded AC outlet
- Maintainer must be operated in an environment with proper ventilation
- Maintainer must not be operated in a damp or wet environment
- Do not use maintainer on 10 Ah or smaller battery
- Caution! A battery charger should not be connected or operating while maintainer is in use.
Connection sequence:
- Attach positive (Red) battery clip to Positive post of first battery in series
- Attach Negative (Black) battery clip to Negative post of last battery in series
- Plug maintainer into AC power
- Turn maintainer power switch on
Since maintainer is connected directly to the battery Pos./Neg. post, a golf
cart may be put in “tow” mode to avoid any load on the batteries while in
maintenance.
You may leave this maintainer on a good condition battery for months at a time
and it will not overcharge your battery. This maintainer is set to a single
maintenance voltage. If AC power is interrupted, the maintainer will turn
itself back on when AC power is restored.
Caution! Maintainer operation and battery condition should be checked
routinely whenever connected.
LED Maintainer Indicator Lights: | Dual Speed Cooling Fan: |
---|---|
LED 1 (Left): Red — AC power connected, Power switch On | |
LED 2 (Right): Off — Battery not connected / Fuse Blown | |
LED 2 (Right): Yellow — DC output voltage / High current 2.5—0.5 amps | Fan: |
Fast
LED 2 (Right): Green — DC output voltage / Low current < 0.5 amps| Fan: Off
Caution! This maintainer is intended for use with Lead Acid type battery
only. Use with any other type of battery, Lithium, Nickel-cadmium or non-
chargeable, may cause damage or explosion.
Caution! If the maintainer-is not providing DC output voltage-(.Yellow
.or-Green LED)
- Check all physical wire connections, AC and DC
- Check AC power supply
- Check for a bad battery or shorted battery cell
- Check DC output fuse under twist cap on front panel for continuity are damage. Use correct replacement fuse; glass tube, fast acting, 5mm x 20mm, 4 Amp, 250 Volt.
Caution! Aged battery or a battery with a shorted cell may not be able to hold a proper maintenance charge voltage. If Yellow LED does not turn to Green within 24 hours, discontinue use of maintainer; have the battery checked.
Care of operation:
- Battery maintainer must only be used for the purpose specified by the manufacturer.
- Donot operate the battery maintainer if housing or cables are damaged.
- Lay cables in such a way they are not in risk of damage or tripping.
- Position maintainer on secure surface to avoid falling over, keep out of reach of children.
Incorrect installation of electrical units on a boat may cause corrosion, let
a (boat) electrician carry out installation of maintainer.
A qualified person familiar with the risks involved and relevant regulation
must perform service or repair.
