Important information
- To ensure long-lasting use of the measuring instrument, dirt must be removed with a dry cloth after use. Then lubricate the metal parts with oil.
- Dirty housing should be cleaned with a dry, soft cloth after use.
- In case of heavy soiling, wipe with a damp cloth. Volatile organic solvents such as thinners should be avoided as these liquids can damage the housing.
- Do not continue to turn the spindle when the stop is reached, otherwise damage may occur. Use the red release ring on the micrometer to loosen a spindle that is stuck in the limit stop, see image.
- When the cable port is not in use (with the corresponding model), cover it with the protective cap provided.
- The specified error limits are only met if the measuring surfaces of measuring head 44 Ak are in contact over their entire length.
- Opening the instrument voids the warranty.
- After the “ ” symbol appears, proper function is no longer guaranteed.
- We wish you every success with the use of your measuring instrument.
- If you have questions, our technical consultants will be happy to assist you.

Commissioning
- Please observe the following when fitting the 44 Ak measuring head (4) or the 44 Av measuring depth extension (2):
- Turn the sleeve of the ratchet (9) anticlockwise to move the spindle (6) towards the display until you feel that more force is required to do so.
- Screw in by hand the 44 Ak measuring head (4) or the 44 Av measuring depth extension (2) carrying the measuring head.
- Clean both the measuring surfaces (5) and the setting ring (3).
- Insert the measuring head/measuring depth extension into the setting ring and turn the sleeve of the ratchet (9) clockwise until the spindle stops moving.
- In case the spindle (6) got jammed, loosen the ratchet (9) by turning the red ring (8) clockwise (see figure in section 3).
- Accept the actual dimension of the setting ring as the current PRESET value (see sections 9.2 and 9.5.4 for this).
If necessary, unscrew the 44 Ak measuring head (4) or the 44 Av measuring depth extension (2) by hand. In case it cannot be unscrewed by hand, please use the hooked wrench supplied with the micrometer.
Inserting or changing the battery
- Insert battery
- The measuring instrument will turn on automatically after battery replacement.
- Please use only “Renata” or “Varta” batteries.
Functions
Intuitive menu navigation
Auto ON/OFF
Switching-off (reference is not lost, PRESET remains in memory)
Sleep mode (after 8 min of pausing)
ABSOLUTE/RELATIVE measuring modes
Depending on the measuring task, the micrometer screw can be used to measure
in two different operating modes.
ABSOLUTE (PRESET) measuring mode (PRI – PRIII)
-
Three different PRESET values can be set (shown on display as “PRI” – “PRIII”).
-
The displayed measured value corresponds to the actual diameter (absolute dimension).
-
The exact diameter of the respective setting ring (in a size matching the measuring head 44 Ak used) is stored as the PRESET value.
-
Calibration in the setting ring:
Press the PR key briefly (< 1 sec.).- The display shows the value of the currently active PRESET (“PRI”, “PRII” or “PRIII”).
Switching between PRI, PRII and PRIII
- Press and hold the 0 ABS key (> 1 sec.):
- The PRESET value switches between “PRI”, “PRII” and “PRIII”.
- “PR1”, “PR2” or “PR3” is briefly shown on the display as confirmation.
RELATIVE measuring mode (REL)
- Press the 0 ABS key briefly (< 1 sec.):
- “0” setting of the display at any position for a step or comparative measurement.
- “REL” appears in the display.
In the relative measuring mode, the tolerance function (TOL) is not allowed. If the tolerance function (TOL) is selected, the most recent PRESET value will be displayed.
Back from RELATIVE measuring mode to the ABSOLUTE (PRESET) mode
- Press and hold the 0 ABS key (> 1 sec.).
- At any point, the system switches from the relative measuring mode (REL) to the active PRESET value (PRI – PRIII) for ABSOLUTE measurement.
- The display shows “PRI”, “PRII” or “PRIII”.
DATA/HOLD function
HOLD
- Freezes the displayed measured value after the measurement.
- This function is useful for measuring tasks in which the display cannot be viewed during the measuring process, e.g., when measuring in the machine.
DATA
When data transmission is active or the data cable has been plugged in, HOLD
is disabled and instead, a data command is initiated.
- Data transfer with cable
- Wireless connection
TOL function
Tolerance and warning limits display
With this function, good parts/rejects and tolerance deviations of a dimension
can be identified quickly.
To this end, tolerance limit values (max. tolerance range < 1.6 mm) and a warning limit (choose from 0% / 10% / 20% / 30%) can be set.
- Three different tolerances can be stored.
- Each tolerance is permanently coupled to a PRESET value (PRI – PRIII).
- The display shows the pairing with PRI – PRIII + TOL.
In the relative measuring mode, the tolerance function (TOL) is not allowed. If the tolerance function (TOL) is selected, the most recent PRESET value will be displayed.
Switching the display function on and off:
Changing a tolerance or the PRESET value:
Possible displays:
- The measuring result is within the tolerance limits.
- The measuring result is above the upper warning limit. The arrow flashes when the preset warning limit is reached.
- The measuring result is below the lower warning limit: The arrow flashes when the preset lower warning limit is reached.
- The measuring result is outside of the tolerance limit.
Example of warning limit based on tolerance:
- Tolerance field 100 μm (100%)
- Warning limit 20%
The tolerances are set in the menu; “Structure diagram of menu functions”.
