Product Usage Instructions
Starting Up and Pairing
To power on the Crowd Compass, toggle the power switch hard. The
device will take about six seconds to boot up. Remember to turn off
the Compass if the batteries die.
Calibrating Your Compass
- Hold down both zoom buttons (+/-) simultaneously.
- Release the buttons when all lights turn off.
- Follow the steps for calibration:
- Flip the Compass 5 times to the right.
- Flip the Compass 5 times forward.
- Spin the Compass 5 times while it’s face up.
- Spin the Compass 5 times while it’s face down.
- The Compass will auto exit calibration mode.
Pairing with Other Compasses
- Gather your group and stand close together.
- Hold the pairing button until you see PAIRING.
- Wait for the success message to appear in your color.
Checking Messages and Location
- Press the main button 1+ times to choose a message.
- While a message is scrolling, press and hold to send.
- To clear a received message, press the main button.
- Ensure your location is working by playing a game of
hide-and-seek.
Additional Tips

If walking beside someone, LEDs may lag due to GPS info
transfer time. -
If a radar animation appears, zoom out.

You can do this on your own

Toggle power switch hard to turn on/off Compass takes about six seconds to

You’ll need your crew for this part
Pair with other Compasses:
1.Gather your group and stand close together 2.All together, hold pairing
button until you see “PAIRING” 3.Success message will appear in your color
(some Compasses
are slower than others)

Wait while your Compass is “Contacting Outer Space”
It may take up to a few minutes to contact outer space and display and your
friends’ LEDs Go outside and wait for this message to stop before you move on.
New LEDs appear at or near center of Compass.
Next, check your messages. Do this one at a time:
1. Press the main button 1+ times to choose a message 2. While one is
scrolling, press and hold to send 3. Press to clear a received message 4. Wait
a beat, and repeat for each paired Compass
The Set Up, Part 3/3
Almost done!
Stay outside and check your location is working
1. Play a game of hide-and-seek! a. The devices are optimized for one person
to hide and one person to seek. If you’re both moving, they still work, but
your location info will be a bit delayed
2. A white LED points in one general direction when calibrated correctly. If
it jumps all over the perimeter of the device, recalibrate. Otherwise, ignore.
3. If you want, play with the zoom (click + or -)

Other important info:
1.LEDs may lag if you’re walking beside someone a.This is expected. GPS info
can take up to 30 sec to go between Compasses (no LTE after all!)
2.If a radar animation appears, zoom out 3.Turn your Compass off if the
batteries die 4.Recalibrate after you turn back on 5.Something still off? See

Pro Tip: If you need to do the pairing process again, we recommend doing a
factory reset first.
The Buttons

When in Compass Mode: Press to load message Press and hold to send
When in Party Mode Press to change lights
Anytime Press to clear a message Double click to see battery level
1x: Zoom out 2x: Decrease brightness

The Basics
It’s true, you can find your crew…
Locate your friends easily:
1. You are at the center 2. Your crew members are the other LED dots 3. Pick
a friend to meet up with 4. Rotate so that dot is on the top of the Compass 5.
Walk towards them to be reunited!
Pro Tip 1: Hold the Compass flat for best results. Pro Tip 2: The Compass will
get you within 10-15 feet of your friend. Once their dot is in the center, use
the power of PLUR (or Party Mode) the rest of the way to reunite.
The Zoom
You’re in charge of how large…
Adjust your zoom when people are close or far:
Press the + button to zoom in, – button to zoom out The farthest ring’s
distance will then display
When you zoom in, you may see “100 FEET,” meaning everyone on the outer ring
is 100 feet away, and someone halfway between you and the farthest ring is 50
feet away

Pro Tip: If you see a scanning animation, it means nobody is in range. Zoom
out (hit the – button) to find your crew.
Pro Tip 2: Make sure you’re fully zoomed in when getting close to finding
someone. Ring distances are here.
The Messages
Say important stuff like, “I’m Peaking Bro!”
Sending messages:
Press the main button once to load a message Press again to view the next
message Press and hold to send a message (while it’s scrolling) The Compass
will confirm with “Alert Sent” Press the main button to clear the confirmation
message
Receiving messages:
You’ll see messages in the sender’s color Press the main button to clear a
message The most recent message received will always be shown
Press to load Press and hold to send Press to clear

Party Mode
Press and hold the – button to enter/exit Party Mode Press the main button to
change the type of Party Mode Clearing a message returns to Compass Mode
(proto bug)
Brightness
Double click either zoom button to increase or decrease the overall brightness
(in any mode) The + button increases the brightness, the – button decreases
the brightness. Duh…
Press to change lights (when in Party Mode)
Press and hold to enter or exit Party Mode
Double click to adjust brightness
Pro Tip: Try entering Party Mode if you need a bright light to find someone in a dense crowd or just wanna add some flare to your outfit.
The Battery
Stay hydrated and juiced up!
When you’re juiced up
Double click the main button for the battery level Battery icon flashing means
your battery level is low and you need to change your batteries
When you’re outta juice
A red empty battery icon means your battery is dead Crowd Compass uses 3 AA
batteries (lithium recommended) After batteries are changed, you must
recalibrate Paired Compasses and your settings will stay after you change your
batteries or turn the Compass off
Double click to see the current battery level
Pro Tip: If your battery dies, turn the Compass off to prevent damage and
prevent your settings from being reset.
Troubleshooting
In case your Compass starts tripping too…
Compass displaying a radar animation Zoom out – this means nobody’s in range
Compass displaying “NO FRIENDS FOUND” Turn on or pair your other Compasses
This means nobody is online or has GPS signal yet
Compass displaying “CONTACTING OUTER SPACE” Go somewhere with clear view of
the sky, wait 2-5 minutes Turn off/on if it stays This means your Compass is
working to get GPS signal
Compass doesn’t turn on when hitting the power switch Ensure batteries are in
correctly You may have to wiggle the battery contacts (springs) Flip the on
switch hard
LEDs are not responding Recalibrate the Compass
Recalibrate or Reset
We all need a reset sometimes
Recalibrate after new batteries OR LEDs are not responding
Hold down both zoom buttons (+/-) simultaneously Release the buttons when all
lights turn off When you see “CALLIBRATING,” do the following:
Flip the Compass 5 times to the right Flip the Compass 5 times forward Spin
the Compass 5 times while it’s face up Spin the Compass 5 times while it’s
face down The Compass auto exits calibration mode in 30 seconds A white LED
will point one direction (north) when calibrated correctly. If it jumps
around, recalibrate.

If nothing above works, factory reset your Compass Hold down all the buttons simultaneously but do so in this order: Main, Zoom +, Zoom -, Pair Resetting wipes all calibration, pairing, and app settings
