Product Usage Instructions
Before You Begin
Ensure the substrate is prepared adequately for application.
Substrate Preparation:
- Use a roll-on application method for a smooth and even coating.
- Adhesive spread rate and drying time depend on substrate porosity, texture, temperature, and humidity.
- Keep the paint roller wet during application.
- Avoid applying pressure to the roller; let it roll freely over the substrate.
- Adhesive coverage must not exceed 9.8m²/L.
- Overly absorbent or rough substrates may require two coats.
Installation:
- Ensure the floor covering material is LVT or LVP.
- Use the recommended 9.5mm nap paint roller for application.
- Keep the paint roller wet and do not exert pressure on it.
- Adhesive coverage should not exceed 9.8m²/L.
FAQ
-
Can I apply the adhesive with a brush instead of a paint roller?
It is recommended to use a 9.5mm nap paint roller for optimal application results. -
How long should I wait before bonding the surfaces after applying the adhesive?
Ensure the adhesive coating has dried completely before initiating the bonding process. Keep it clean and separate from other surfaces until ready.
DriStix® is a revolutionary solvent free, easy to use advanced aqueous adhesive suitable for interior installations of luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and dimensional stabile planks (LVP). The adhesive is applied using a 9.5mm nap paint roller and dries quickly to facilitate fast installation times. Once DriStix® is dry, the adhesive provides an instant, permanent contact bond when pressure/weight is applied by hand rolling the LVT/LVP. DriStix® is made with MicroSept®, an Advanced Antimicrobial System to protect the adhesive from bacteria and fungal growth. DriStix® is FloorScore® certified, CRI™ GLP approved, and Made in the USA.
SUBSTRATE CONDITIONS
Use on or above grade concrete substrates with up to 95% RH (per current AS/NZS 1884 and ASTM F2170), and pH of 8.0–10.0.
USE WITH
- Luxury vinyl tile (LVT)
- Dimensional stabile luxury vinyl plank (LVP)
CERTIFICATIONS
- FloorScore® Certified
- LEED v4 Credits: IEQ Credit 2.1, 2.2
- “Zero” calculated VOC
- CRI™ GLP approved
LIMITATIONS
- Do not allow product to freeze.
- Do not use on substrates that have been chemically cleaned or over treated plywood.
- Shelf life is 2 years from date of manufacture in unopened container. Store indoors at a tempera-ture between 18°-37°C.
BEFORE YOU BEGIN
Important: Proper substrate preparations are essential. Moisture testing must be performed and documented before installation begins. Read AS/NZS1884 and XL Brands® Technical Bulletin titled “Substrate Preparation” for complete instructions before beginning installation. The XL Brands® document may be found at www.xlbrands.com/resources/technical-bulletins/substrate- preparations.
SUBSTRATE PREPARATION
NOTE: A CLEAN SUBSTRATE IS ESSENTIAL! Suitable substrates include on or
above grade concrete
(within moisture and alkalinity specifications), well-bonded and properly
prepared tile or sheet goods, underlayment-grade plywood and radiant heated
floors (30°C and below). All substrates must be clean, smooth, dry and free of
waxes, existing adhesives, dirt, dust, grease, oil, paint curing compounds or
sealers. This adhesive cannot be used over chemically cleaned substrates. The
installation site must be acclimated with HVAC in operation. The substrate and
room temperature, as well as flooring materials and adhesive, must be
maintained at 18°–35°C and the humdity between 40%–65% for 48 hours prior to,
during, and after the testing and installation. The substrate temperature must
be at least 5.56 degrees C. higher than the Dew Point. DriStix® may be used
for installations over concrete substrates with up to 95% in-situ Relative
Humidity per latest version of AS/NZS 1884 and ASTM F2170, and pH between 8.0
– 10.0. Testing the substrate with an impedance meter (refer to ASTM F2659) is
required due to possible issues related to topical moisture from dew point
conditions. Substrate surfaces must not read over 3.5% on the impedance meter.
All substrate preparation and testing procedures must conform to appropriate
AS/NZS 1884 and ASTM F710 guidelines, and comply with the floor-covering
manufacturers specification.
APPLICATION
A roll-on application method is required to achieve a smooth even full-spread coating. Spread rate and drying time of the adhesive will depend on the porosity and texture of the substrates and the ambient temperature and relative humidity. KEEP PAINT ROLLER WET!! Do not apply pressure to the roller, allow it to freely roll over the substrate. ADHESIVE COVERAGE MUST NOT EXCEED 9.8 m2/L!! Overly absorbent or rough substrates will require two coats. Once the coating has dried, it must be kept clean and apart from any contact with other surfaces until ready to begin the bonding process. Do not spread more adhesive than can be covered in 4 hours.
INSTALLATION
Once the DriStix® has dried, tiles can be slid and easily shifted into
position to achieve a precise tight fit and proper alignment before pressing
or rolling assembly. When all the tiles are down, roll the entire assembly in
both directions with 45.4 kg roller to achieve a full contact bond.
Note: After the assembly is rolled or pressed into place tiles are locked
in place and re-positioning is usually not possible. Normal traffic and
rolling loads may be allowed as soon as the installation, finishing and clean-
up are complete.
CLEANUP
Wipe up spills and drips with a clean, wetted cloth. Dry adhesive may require the use of an appropriate solvent cleaner.
COVERAGE
Approximately 8.6–9.8 square meters per litre when applied with a 9.5mm nap paint roller.
