GENERAL INFORMATION
The 4661X series package air conditioner is intended for installation in recreational vehicles by the vehicle manufacturer. It is to be installed within a cabinet or under a bunk with the interior of the cabinet acting as the indoor return air plenum to the evaporator coil. It is understood that the R.V. manufacturer has provided a suitable installation area with the proper openings to the outside of the vehicle for condenser air and to the inside of the vehicle for conditioned air. This cabinet area will be open to the outside weather and possibly to unit condensation, therefore a water-tight floor or water drainage tray is recommended. These are to be provided by the OEM/installer. The R.V. manufacturer will also need to provide high voltage supply wiring to a 115 volt electrical service (see unit rating plate for specific requirements) and 12 volt DC power for the thermostat wiring.
UNIT INSTALLATION
The mounting and ducting options are illustrated in Figures 1 and 2.
- Ducted with indoor grille 90° to outer wall
- Indoor grille opposite outer wall with indoor louvers connected directly to unit or ducted.
- Prepare cabinet and openings as shown in Figures 1 and 2.
- Attach condenser duct flange to unit, utilizing pre-drilled holes and provided (silver) screws.
- Slide unit into cabinet area through opening in outer wall of R.V. Apply caulking between duct flange and outer wall and screw duct flange to outer wall with provided (silver) screws.
- If desired, mounting clips used to hold the unit to the wood skid for shipping may be re-used to secure the unit to the cabinet floor.
- Apply installer supplied butyl sealant tape around back perimeter of condenser grille.
- Slide condenser grille in place over unit drain hoses and screw grille to R.V. wall and to unit divider flange with provided (black) screws.
- Attach indoor grille to side of interior cabinet with provided (black) screws.
- If a ducted installation method is being used, cut proper length of flex duct for 3 sets of duct collars/louvers. Install flex duct over the collars on the unit end and over the louvers on the grille assembly. Secure and seal each end of ducts with duct tape.
VAC ELECTRICAL WIRING
WARNING – SHOCK HAZARD
To prevent the possibility of severe personal injury or equipment damage due
to electrical shock, always be sure the electrical power is disconnected or
off before beginning installation.
-
Circuit Protection
See unit rating plate for required time delay (H.A.C.R.) fuse or circuit breaker size. -
High Voltage Wiring Specifications
Use copper conductors only, sized according to the circuit amperage and conductor length per the NEC and local codes. -
High Voltage Routing
- Route all wiring per applicable local and national electrical codes.
- Remove the wire box door from the top of unit.
- Install the provided wire cable clamp in the high voltage wire entry hole and push cable though clamp and into the wire box. When using non-metallic sheath cable (Romex, etc.), strip sheath back to expose 4-6 inches of the supply leads. Strip the individual wire lead ends for wire connection (about 1/2″ bare wire).
- Using provided wire nuts, connect high voltage “pig-tail” wires in unit to supply leads. Green to ground, Black to “Hot”, and White to “Neutral”. It is suggested to apply electrical tape around wire nuts and wires to ensure long-term security.
- Push high voltage wiring and wire nuts into the segregated box area of the control box and re-install control box door.
THERMOSTAT AND 12 VDC WIRING
Routing of the thermostat wiring must comply with all local and national electrical codes. Collect any excess thermostat harness in the air conditioner mounting compartment. Be sure to secure the excess wiring within the compartment. Coiling the excess harness is acceptable.
The following thermostat control wires are provided on the thermostat wiring adaptor
Color| Thermostat Function
Blue| -12VDC Power
Yellow| +12VDC Input to compressor
Green| +12VDC Input to high fan speed
Gray| +12VDC Input to low fan speed
THERMOSTAT MOUNTING
Follow the instructions packed with the thermostat to select a location for
the thermostat mounting. Choose a location which is not totally isolated from
air currents and is not subject to direct discharge from an air register.
CHECKOUT
- Before engaging power to any system, ensure the following:
- All tools have been removed from the equipment.
- All wiring is attached, routed and properly secured.
- All panels (both mechanical and electrical) are in place.
- The thermostat system switch is placed into the “OFF” position.
- All co-workers have been warned that the equipment is being energized.
- System wiring may be checked by referring to the wiring diagram located on the back of the wiring box door.
- Before beginning the checkout procedure, thoroughly read the checkout instructions in either the thermostat installation instructions or in the operations section of this manual.
- After complying with steps 1 through 3, engage power to all systems and begin checkout procedure.
OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS
A. Operation
Following the guidance provided with the wall thermostat, verify that each
thermostat setting operates the appliance in the proper manner.
B. Maintenance
One of the biggest advantages of owning a Coleman-Mach air conditioner is the
maintenance needed is minimal to keep the unit in good working order.
In fact, the only maintenance that must be taken care of on a regular basis,
is the cleaning or replacement of the air conditioner return air filter and
condensate drain.
The return air filter of this system will accumulate dust and dirt more
quickly than ceiling mounted air conditioning systems. We recommend that the
filters be checked on a weekly basis.
- If the filters are not cleaned or replaced at regular intervals, they may become partially clogged with lint and dirt. A clogged filter will produce a loss of air volume and may eventually cause equipment damage.
- Do not operate the air conditioner without the return air filters in place. Operating the system without the filters allows the lint and dirt that is normally stopped by the filter to accumulate on the cooling coil of the air conditioner. This also
- will lead to a loss of air volume, possible equipment damage and an expensive cleaning process.
- Once or twice a season inspect the outdoor coil and brush off any accumulated residue with a soft bristled brush.
- The condensate drain and associated hose should be flushed once a season to remove any residue.
