Product Usage Instructions
Getting Started
Power the G8 using an isolated 9v center negative power supply.
Set up the G8 using one of the attached signal diagrams. Engage the G8 and
slowly turn up the Thresh knob just enough to eliminate background noise. Set
the Release knob to where your guitar’s sustain feels natural. Keep the Hold
knob at a minimum. These settings provide a good starting point. Refer to the
manual for fine-tuning, different setups, and troubleshooting.
Your Signal Chain
While it’s common to place a noise gate first in your signal chain, it may not always yield the best results. If you’re experiencing noise from pedals like compressors or overdrives, place the G8 after them. Avoid placing the G8 after modulation or time-based effects to maintain their fidelity. This applies to FX loops as well.
Send & Return With FX Loops
If your amplifier has an FX loop, route the G8’s send and return through it using one of the attached signal diagrams to reduce noise. Amps can also generate noise. When using effects like delay or reverb, ensure the G8 is inserted before them.
Gating Noisy Pedals
If you have noisy pedals, like distortion pedals, their noise can impact the noise gate’s response. If placing the G8 after these pedals doesn’t feel right, use signal diagram #3 to connect the noisy pedals in the G8’s send and return. This setup lets the gate accurately respond to your guitar signal while controlling pedal noise.
FAQ
-
Q: Can I power the G8 with a different power supply?
A: It is recommended to use an isolated 9v center negative power supply to power the G8 for optimal performance. -
Q: Where should I place the G8 in my signal chain?
A: While typically placed first in the chain, consider placing it after noisy pedals and before modulation or time-based effects for best results.

The Power Requirements.
Voltage: 9VDC. Maximum: 12VDC. Current (Amperes) Requirement: 50mA.
Getting Started
Power only via isolated 9v center negative power supply. Set up the G8 using one of the attached signal diagrams. Engage G8 & slowly turn up “Thresh” just to the point at which background noise is eliminated. Set “Release” where your guitar’s sustain feels natural. Leave “Hold” at minimum. You should have a good starting point for your G8 settings. Refer to the rest of the manual for instructions on fine-tuning, different setups, & troubleshooting.
Your Signal Chain
While it is common practice to place a noise gate first in your signal chain – this may not always yield the best results! If you are experiencing noise from pedals, such as compressors or overdrives, you can place the G8 after those. Be sure not to place the G8 after modulation or time-based effects to maintain their fidelity. This is also true in FX loops.
Send & Return With FX Loops
If your amplifier has an FX loop, you can likely remove the most noise by
routing the G8’s send & return through your amplifier’s FX loop using one of
the attached signal diagrams. This is because amps themselves can also
generate some noise.
As above, if you are using effects such as delay, reverb, or tremolo, make
sure the G8 is inserted prior to those.
Gating Noisy Pedals
If you have particularly noisy pedals (such as a distortion pedal), their noise may negatively affect the response of a noise gate. If running your G8 in line after those pedals does not feel right, you may place those noisy pedals in the G8’s send & return using signal diagram #3. This allows the gate to “see” your guitar signal & respond accurately while taming the noise of your pedals.
