Purpose and Normal Use

The Track Wheel is an accessory designed to be connected to a manual wheelchair. By lifting the front castors, only the rear wheels of the wheelchair and the Track Wheel are used.
A bigger front wheel allows the users to facilitate mobility on uneven surfaces. It greatly increases the user’s independence and riding flexibility. In addition, it reduces the rolling resistance which make the riding more relaxing.

Improper Use

Any use that does not follow the description in this User’s Manual. This also includes the technical specification.

To adjust the clamping jaw:

  • Adjust the bolts indicated.
  • Tighten it after fitting with wheelchair leg rest hanger.

Adjust the Track Wheel to fit your wheelchair.
Adjustable in 4 planes to get the best fit congruency.

To adjust the Track Wheel:

  • Loosen the bolt.
  • Adjust the clamp angle.
  • Tighten the bolts.

Rotate around the long axis.

  • Loosen the bolt.
  • Adjust the clamp angle.
  • Tighten the bolts.

Adjust the height.

  • Adjust the height.
  • Tighten the bolts.

Adjust the width.

  • Loosen the bolt.
  • Adjust the width.
  • Tighten the bolts.

Replace the arm with longer version.

  • Take out the bolt (1) and (2).
  • Take out two bolts (3) to release the Clamping Jaw, the pre-set torque for these two bolts is 5 Nm. This is an iterative process whereby the Clamping Jaw must be taken out to allow access to the bolt (4).
  • Take out the bolt (4), the pre-set torque is 6 Nm.
  • Replace the arm (h) with longer version and assemble it with Locking Rim (i) and Clamp Arm (j).
  • Tighten the bolt (4) with torque at 6 Nm.
  • Tighten the bolt (2) with torque at 14 Nm.
  • Adjust the Clamping Jaw then tighten it with two bolts (3), recommended torque is 25 Nm.
  • Adjust the longer arm and tighten it with bolt (1), recommended torque is 25 Nm.
  • Do same as above for the other side.

C1/A1 (Single Arm, CF/Alu)
WARNING!
The Single arm model is mainly designed to fit with rigid wheelchair, the clamp is fastened to the wheelchair footplate.

For Fitting to the wheelchair and adjusting for use, firstly turn the wheel forward as shown below, there are three adjustments required:

REHASENSE C2 A2 Aluminium Track Wheel - wheelchair1

  • Clamp opening to fit the Footrest – the width of the clamps should be enough to allow the clamp to just fit over the footrest; thereby ensuring the clamping action is secure to the Footrest.
  • Height of the Wheel to the ground – the aim is for the Track Wheel to be fully contacted to the ground, without lifting the front wheels of the wheelchair.
  • Steering Link dampening – the resistance to rotating of the Wheel to the Frame can be adjusted at the Steering Link.

Adjusting the clamp width to the Footplate.

  • Measure the distance (d) from the front to rear edges of the footplate,
  • Loosen the Lock Nut (a) and rotate the Adjusting Ring (b) so that the space between the Clamp Jaws is d1 plus 5 mm
  • Place the Clamp over the Footrest and move the Clamp Lever to the lock position (c). The force required to lock the clamp should be manageable by the user but still ensure a safe

connection. Fine adjustment is made by screwing the Adjusting Ring (b) in or out.

  • Once finalised tighten the Lock Nut (a) to prevent unintended loosening.

Adjusting the height of the Track Wheel.

  • The correct height is such that there is firm contact of the Wheel to the ground so that it can rotate to the “up” position when the wheelchair is moved forwards.
  • This is done by:
    i. Loosening the two Lock Bolts (e), the pre-set torque is 2 Nm. Turning the Angle Adjusting Screw (f) clockwise to raise or anticlockwise to lower the Wheel (d). these steps need a 5 mm Hex Driver or Allen Key.
ii. This is an iterative process whereby the Clamp Lever must be pulled back to allow access to the Angle Adjustment Screw (f).
iii. Once confirmed, retighten Lock Bolts (e) with recommended torque at 6 Nm.

Note! The maximum suited tube diameter and clamping distance are shown in Technical Data (Chapter 12).
Adjusting the Steering Link.13

  • To increase resistance to rotation, turn the Steering Link knob clockwise
  • To reduce resistance, turn the knob anti-clockwise.

Replace the rear clamping claw with new version.

  • Take out the Lock Nut (a) and rotate the Adjusting Ring (b) to take out the rear clamping claw.
  • Assemble the Adjusting Ring (b) with new rear clamping claw into toggle mechanism then tighten the Lock Nut (a) with recommended torque at 20 Nm.

Replace the front clamping claw with new version.

  • Turn the downside to up position.
  • Loosen the Lock Bolt (g), replace with new front clamping claw and tighten it.

Changing the wheel
For both the single and double arm versions.

  • Loosen the bolt (1).
  • Loosen the bolt (2) to make the fork and wheel assembly detached from the frame.
  • Loosen the bolt (3) and (4).
  • Take off the fork from wheel.
  • Change to the new wheel, tighten the bolt (3) and (4), recommended torque is 8 Nm.

How to Use

WARNING!
The user should have read and understood the manual and understand how the Track Wheel works.

REHASENSE C2 A2 Aluminium Track Wheel - Double Arms

After Setting Up
Note! Before setting up, all wheels are on the ground, the Track Wheel is at outward position.
Note! After setting up, when user propel the wheelchair, the Track Wheel will automatically turn inward, at the same time the wheelchair front castors and Track Wheel’s support wheel are lifted from the ground. The ground clearance for the front castors is approximately 40 mm (it would be varied by different angle of footrests and leg rest hanger).
