The models optioned with the 3.07:1 performance rear axle have an improved muffler system that provides less restrictive airflow, resulting in a bump of 5 hp to 245 hp for these models. Other models still maintain a horsepower of 240 hp. The Z51 and Z52 performance package models now come with larger front brake rotors and calipers, higher spring rates, and a finned power steering cooler for improved heat dissipation. The suspension has also been modified to enhance car control under hard braking.
  • The 1988 Corvette was produced in two body styles: 2dr Convertible and 2dr Coupe. A total of 30,000 Corvettes were built for the 1988 production year, with approximately one-third being convertibles and the remaining being coupes.

Vehicle’s Condition Classification

#1. Concours
#1 vehicles are the best in the world. Imagine the best vehicle, in the right colors, driving onto the lawn at the finest concours. Perfectly clean, the vehicle has been groomed down to the tire treads. Painted and chromed surfaces are mirror-like. Dust and dirt are banned, and materials used are correct and superbly fitted.

#2. Excellent
#2 vehicles could win a local or regional show. They might even be former

1 vehicles that have been driven or have aged. Seasoned observers will have

to look closely for flaws but will be able to find some. The paint, chrome, glass, and finishes will all appear as excellent. The vehicle drives as a new vehicle of its era would.

#3. Good
#3 vehicles drive and run well but are not used for daily transportation. The casual passerby will not find any visual flaws, but these vehicles might have some incorrect parts. #3 vehicles could possess some, but not all, of the issues of a #4 vehicle, but they will be balanced by other factors such as fresh paint or a new, correct interior.

Model description

  • 1988 marked the 35th year of the Corvette, and Chevrolet celebrated with the C4 Corvette 35th Anniversary Edition. 2,050 Anniversary Editions sold, and it was very much a car of its time. It was finished in ready-for-Miami-Vice “Triple White” with white paint, white seating upholstery and door panels, white steering wheel, and white wheels. It even had white lettering. Contrasting all the brightness was a black roof panel and black windshield frame. Today, 35th Anniversary Corvettes command a significant premium in price over standard cars.
  • Other interior improvements and changes for the 1988 Corvette included new carpeted door sills and improved ventilation for coupes. 1988 Corvettes optioned with the 3.07:1 performance rear axle also had an improved muffler system that provided less restrictive airflow, resulting in a bump of 5 hp to 245 hp for so-optioned models. All other models still made 240 hp. That muffler was considered too loud for the convertible, so it didn’t come on ragtops with the 3.07 rear-end.
  • The Z51 and Z52 performance package models now included 17 x 9.5-inch wheels. The Z51 (coupe only) now came with larger front brake rotors and calipers, higher spring rates, and a finned power steering cooler for improved heat dissipation. In general, the suspension was modified to improve car control under hard braking. Chevy built about 30,000 Corvettes for the 1988 production year. A third of them were convertibles, while the roughly 20,000 remaining were coupes.
