F9 Shell Garage
WARNING: Build this thing at your own damn risk (that means you too,
Americans!).
For the sake of liability, just presume that all tools are deadly, all
adhesives are toxic, and all tents and tarps can get caught in a strong wind,
lift you and your bike up into the sky and drop you onto the interstate
during rush hour.
Measurements vary, depending on your bikes’ dimensions.
LIST OF MATERIALS
1″ ALUMINUM SQUARE TUBING (APPROX. 80′)
3/8″X16 ALL THREAD (APPROX 12″)
(10) CORNER CONNECTORS
(4) 3/8″X16 STAINLESS NUTS
(2) 3/8″X16 STAINLESS NYLOC NUTS
(4) WASHERS
(4) RUBBER WASHERS
(1) VINYL- TARP (WE USED ONE 141X18′ FOR THE RV125)
(1) 141-1-6611 VINYL CEMENT (320z)
Step 1: measure bike
Step 2: cut tubes
You’re making a series of five ‘arches’.
They’re equal in height, but each is wider than the last by two inches.
TAKE YOUR B MEASUREMENT AND COMPARE IT TO HALF OF A USE WHICHEVER IS GREATER.LET’S SAY IT’S B.
Step 3: drill tubes
MEasure, mark and centerpunch at 0.5” from the bottom edge of each tube.

mark/drill both sides of each tube separately so they
line up, unless you’re using a drill press.
Step 4: connect pivot points

USE YOUR DRILL TO FEED THE ALL THREAD THROUGH FIVE OF YOUR B tubes.| 1.
install washers, rubber one first.
2. thread the nuts on, then screw them togther so they bind.
3. push the all thread in untIl the assembly bottoms out.
| Install a second rubber washer, then a standard washer, and a nyloc nut.
Tighten until snug. Don’t overtighten!
Trim the excess all thread and repeat step 4 with remaining tubes and
hardware.
Step 5: connect arches
Use a rubber mallet to tap the corner connectors into each end of all five C tubes. be sure that both have the protruding end at 90 degrees in the same direction.
Step 6: mark and cut the tarp
The frame makes a half
circle when opened, and is it’s radius.
Cut a rope to the length of “b”, and tape it to a point on your tarp where at
least half the circle will clear the edges.
PULL THE ROPE TIGHT, AND DRAG A MARKER TO GET YOUR CIRCLE(S). MEASURE FOR B X2
TO GET YOUR HALF .
For the top panel:
MultiplyB by 3.14 FOR HALF OF THE CIRCUMFERENCE, THIS GIVES US THE LENGTH OF
OUR TOP PANEL.
THE WIDTH IS JUST OUR C TUBE MEASUREMENT, PLUS AN EXTRA 8” FOR OVERLAP ON
INSTALLATION.
IF YOU CAN’T FIND A BIG ENOUGH TARP, SMALL TARPS CAN BE USED FOR EACH PANEL.
Step 7: glue the tarp to the frame.
Cut and glue a flap to capture the widest and narrowest tubes. use a roller of
some sort to really press these flaps down if you can.
NOTE: we tried all types of glue and tarp combos, and a tarp and HH-66
VINYL CEMENT is the only way to go.
Once the glue has bonded (see instructions on can) Flip the frame and top
panel over and expand the frame into position.
Try to get the middle arch at 90 degrees, and the adjecent arches at 45
degrees. Measure your spacing so everything is as even as possible.
MArk the placement of each C tube on the underside of the top panel in case
the arches move while you proceed with assembly.
Cut a few straps out of scrap tarp material and loop them around the bottom
tubes.
USE AS MANY LOOPS AS NECESSARY TO SECURE THE BOTTOM OF THE SIDE PANELS TO THE
BOTTOM OF THE FRAME.
TO SECURE THE TOP PANEL TO THE C TUBES, SIMPLY GLUE THE STRAP OVER THE TUBE
WITHOUT LOOPING.
DO THE SAME FOR THE STANDING TUBES ON THE SIDE PANELS.

Cut and glue the excess top panel material down onto the side panels. Folding and creasing the tarp prior to cutting can give you some good guidelines for your cuts. HH-66 has a quick intitial bond, so start with the peak of the side panel to hang the rest of it up whiile you work your way around the rest of the edges.
Step 8: REJOICE
This project is rewarding! your bike gets a custom shelter that keeps it safe from the elements while providing enough air volume to dry off when it’s put away wet.
