dragonfli BACgL3KOB0Q Beepol Villa and Live Bumblebee Colony
Product Information
The product is a bee hive that comes with a capped sugar water supply for the bees. The hive is delivered with the sugar water supply capped to prevent leakage during transportation.
Product Usage Instructions
PLEASE BE AWARE THIS HIVE HAS HAD ITS SUGAR WATER SUPPLY CAPPED FOR DELIVERY PLEASE UNCAP THE SUGAR WATER SUPPLY IMMEDIATELY ON RECEIPT
- Step 1
- Lift the plastic colony box (which contains the bees) out of the white cardboard box and set it aside to reveal the capped sugar water supply.
- Step 2
- Lift off and remove the plastic cap (this cap could be black or white).
- Step 3
- Once the sugar water supply is uncapped, place the plastic colony box back on top of the sugar water within the white cardboard box exactly as you received it.
Preparation
We recommend that you leave the bees to settle for at least 30 minutes inside the carrier box before you begin to release them. Site the villa in a semi- shaded location ideally where it will catch the morning sun, but will be shaded from midday onward
- Set up
1. Uncap the sugar water supply as directed on the reverse of this leaflet. It is very important that you do so!
2. Lift the whole white cardboard box containing the bees into the villa.
3. Ensure the yellow sliding opening lines up with the villa exit, so the bees can get in and out of their new home.
4. Place the wooden roof of the villa gently back into place.
5. Slide the yellow door all the way to the right to allow the bees to exit. This can occasionally be a bit stiff.
Sit back & watch the bees slowly begin to leave the hive, this can sometimes take a few hours so don’t be alarmed. The first bee out will take a navigation flight to map out your garden and surrounding area. You should see bees return with small pollen globes attached to their back legs after foraging the local area.
Observation
If you want to observe your bees more closely, gently lift off the lid and
take a look inside. It is always best to do this in the evening however and
make sure you are not standing in the path of bees returning to the hive.
Please also ensure you do not make sudden jolting movements as the bees may
feel threatened. Place the wooden roof back on the hive securely and safely
after observation.
Life Expectancy
Beepol hives have a limited amount of space which will be filled as the colony
within grows. The rate in which it grows depends on the flow of food and the
variations in temperature and other weather conditions. At, or near, capacity
the queen bee will produce new queens and other males (drones) which will
eventually leave the hive. The old queen and remaining workers will then die
and the nest will become vacant. The more food the hive gathers, the warmer
and dryer the environment (within limits), the quicker the colony will grow
and the longer it will remain active. Beepol colonies on average can be
expected to be active for 2-3 months.
