Safety information
IMPORTANT – READ CAREFULLY BEFORE INSTALLING AND OPERATING YOUR BIBO
- The BIBO must be installed in compliance with AS/NZS 3500.4 and all applicable local plumbing and electricalregulations. This includes installing the Dual CV Limiting Valve supplied in the installation kit.
- The BIBO is for indoor use only and should be plugged into a 230V socket with a reliable earth.
- When installing your BIBO and using it for the first time, DO NOT SWITCH ON THE HOT TANK unless water is flowing freely from the outlet when the hot (red) button is activated.
- When your BIBO is newly installed or after a period of not being used, we recommend flushing at least 2 litres of water through both the hot and cold tanks before using to ensure the water is fresh.
- Avoid placing your BIBO in direct sunlight, next to a stove, or near appliances that could get damaged if wet..
- Never immerse the BIBO in water or splash water on the unit. Clean with a damp cloth and mild detergent.
- If your BIBO leaks or is otherwise damaged, switch it off immediately and unplug it from the power supply.
- The BIBO should not be operated unsupervised by young children or by mentally or physically impaired persons if it is unsafe to do so.
- Your BIBO produces high temperature hot water. Please use extra caution when dispensing hot water and activate the child lock setting in the menu if there are young children on the premises. .
- This appliance contains a UV-C emitting lamp. Unintended use or damage to the housing may result in the escape of dangerous UV radiation. Do not operate the UV lamp if it is removed from the BIBO.
- The MAXI carbon filter in your BIBO works by trapping contaminants and over time this may affect the quality of the water you are drinking. We recommend filter replacement every 6 months and UV lamp every 12 months.
- If your BIBO requires servicing call our customer care on 1300 002 426 or email help@bibowater.com.au
- Never attempt to repair your BIBO yourself as this may make your warranty null and void.

Using your BIBO
Initial connection to an electrical supply
Once your BIBO has been plugged in to a power supply, the screen will
initially display the BIBO logo. Follow the instructions on the screen, adding
hot and cold water to the respective tanks. (Once the tanks are full, water
will flow from the dispense nozzles at the front of the dispenser.)
After turning your BIBO on for the first time we suggest you dispense at least 2 litres of water using both the hot & cold keys.
Before using your BIBO for the first time
Important:When using a new or freshly cleaned BIBO for the first time, it’s
important that water is flowing from both the hot and cold dispense nozzles
when the keys are touched, before you switch on the hot water tank. If you
are installing your BIBO please see the appendix “Self-installation
instructions” at the back of this manual.
Once you have flushed 2 litres of water through the system, turn the hot tank
on using the switch at back of the machine (see page 4 of this guide for its
location). A prompt will appear to check the hot tank is full of water. The
hot tank will then begin to heat up and the hot water temperature bar will be
active on the screen. When first used, the hot tank will take approximately 5
minutes to get up to maximum temperature. The cold tank takes approximately 15
minutes to get to minimum temperature.
Performance tip: Depending on your local water pressure it may be necessary to
reduce the flow of water into your BIBO to control the rate at which the water
is dispensed particularly from the hot tank. If the flow from the hot tap is
too fast this may reduce the number of consecutive cups of very hot water
available in one go. The flow can be adjusted by partly closing the tap on
the connector used to connect to your water supply.
Maintenance tip: keep your hot tank working efficiently its important that the
build-up of mineral deposits in the tank is regularly removed. It’s a simple
process and we provide a DIY kit for this purpose. We recommend you clean
your BIBO every 6 months to avoid symptoms of lime scale occurring.

Cleaning your BIBO
Clean your BIBO by simply wiping it down with a damp cloth. Soap or any other
gentle detergent can also be used if you wish. The drip tray can be removed
and cleaned in a dishwasher.
Please don’t use harsh detergents, concentrated washing up liquid or solvents
to clean your BIBO. Avoid using anything abrasive (such as steel brushes,
scourers etc) to clean the body as it will scratch.
It’s very important that you don’t wet the back of the machine whilst cleaning
– remember it is connected to an electrical supply.
Cleaning your BIBO hot tank
To control the build-up of mineral deposits in your BIBO hot tank it will need to be cleaned (descaled) occasionally. It’s a simple process & we provide a DIY kit for this purpose.
BIBO Classic – hot tank cleaning guide
Safety tips & guidance:
- The BIBO hot tank cleaning solution is citric acid and is non-toxic & biodegradable. It’s designed to clean the inside of the hot tank & remove any mineral deposits.
- It’s important that you read the safety guidance label on the pack and wear gloves when handling the cleaning solution.
- If there’s a substantial build-up of mineral deposits in the hot tank it may require more than one attempt to properly remove it. The longer the cleaning solution is left in the hot tank the better. We suggest leaving it for at least 8 hours. In extreme cases the hot tank may need to be replaced.
- CLEANING OR REPLACEMENT OF THE HOT TANK DUE TO LIMESCALE IS NOT COVERED BY YOUR WARRANTY.
- YOUR BIBO MUST NOT BE USED UNTIL THE CLEANING SOLUTION HAS BEEN THOROUGHLY RINSED FROM THE HOT TANK & THE MAXI FILTER CARTRIDGE REPLACED.
Preparation
- Flick the hot tank switch located at the back of the BIBO next to the power switch to OFF (‘0’).
- With the hot tank switched off, dispense water until the temperature of water from the tap is cool.
- Remove the lid from the top of the BIBO by simply lifting it from the rear.
- Twist anti-clockwise & remove the BIBO MAXI filter cartridge. This will be replaced later.
- Mix the contents of the descaler & cleaner sachet with 700ml of warm water in a measuring jug.
- Remove the small cap from the top of the cleaning cartridge with the hexagonal key provided.
- Over the sink, carefully pour the descaling solution into the cartridge until full.
- Replace the cap taking care not to over tighten. Make sure the soft ‘O’ ring seal is in place.
Cleaning
- Fit the cleaning system cartridge into the BIBO & firmly twist clockwise to tighten it.
- Place a suitable drain container (at least 1litre) under the hot tap.
- Dispense at least 1litre of water from the hot tap & discard. it should be slightly fizzy and have a tart citric taste.
- Switch the hot tank back on and allow it to reach maximum temperature.
- Make sure the drain container is under the hot tap.
- Now leave the cleaning solution in your BIBO for as long as possible (at least 2 hours) while the hot tank is cleaned and any mineral deposits are removed.
N.B YOUR BIBO MUST NOT BE USED UNTIL THE CLEANING SOLUTION HAS BEEN RINSED FROM THE HOT TANK & THE MAXI FILTER CARTRIDGE REPLACED. IT’S A GOOD IDEA TO PLACE A POST IT NOTE ON THE SCREEN WARNING PEOPLE NOT TO USE IT.
Rinsing & finishing up
-
Dispense at least 2 litres of hot water & discard.
-
Twist anti-clockwise and remove the cleaning system cartridge.
-
To drain the water from the cleaning cartridge, remove the cap in the top, invert the cartridge over a sink and using the UV lamp removal key press in one of the two valves in the bottom of the cartridge to allow the cartridge to empty.
Carefully replace the cap. -
Now refit the MAXI filter cartridge and dispense another 1-2 litres of water.
-
N.B. If you’re reusing the used MAXI filter cartridge, release any water pressure in the cartridge by using the UV lamp key or similar to press in one of the two valves in the bottom of the cartridge. Do this over a sink pointing the cartridge away from you.
-
Taste test the water to ensure there is no residual taste.
-
Replace the lid on the top of the BIBO.
-
Remember to retain the cleaning system cartridge for the next time you clean your hot tank.

Appendices
Self installation instructions
Please note these instructions should be used in conjunction with this User
Manual and the BIBO self-installation kit delivered with your BIBO.
These instructions should be followed by a plumber, kitchen fitter, builder,
water cooler installer or similarly-experienced person. If at all unsure
please call us on 1300 002 426 and ask to speak to one of our installation
team.
Water Supply Connection
- As well as your BIBO the box contains a self-installation kit consisting of 1) a 3m length of 1/4″ water pipe, 2) a 1/2″ to 1/4″ connector valve to connect to a cold stop tap, 3) a dual check pressure limiting valve, and 4) a right angle fitting to connect with the BIBO water inlet. (NOTE: you will find some of the smaller items in the drip tray).
- When you’ve decided where to locate your BIBO identify a suitable 230V power point and mains cold water supply nearby. Typically this will be under your kitchen sink or behind your dishwasher or washing machine. These instructions assume there is a 1/2″ stop tap available with a cold (blue) braided hose to the mixer tap above.
- If there is not an available 1/2″ stop tap under the sink or other tap to connect to your plumber will need to fit one in order for the BIBO to be installed. You may also need additional fittings not provided in the box, eg if the stop tap does not have a braided hose connected or the fitting is 3/4″ such as a dishwasher or laundry fitting. Your plumber can provide these.
- Turn off the stop tap where you will attach the connector valve and open the mixer tap to check there is no flow.
- Remove the cold braided hose from the stop tap with a shifting spanner and have a tray ready to catch spills. (Pic 1)
- Attach the connector valve to the stop tap and tighten the nut. Re-attach the braided hose to the top of the valve.
- Using a pipe cutter or sharp Stanley knife, cut a short 20cm length of 1/4″ PE and attach it to the connector valve by removing the small nut, pressing the tube fully onto the nipple, and replacing and tightening the nut. (Pic 2)
- Press the open end of the 1/4″ pipe into the dual check (PLV) valve about 1cm until it is firm. Note the arrow indicating flow direction towards the BIBO. (Pic 3)
- Make sure the valve on the connector valve is turned off (i.e. at right angles to the pipe) and turn the stop tap back on checking there is normal flow at the mixer tap. Check all fittings for leaks.
- Drill an 8mm hole through the back of the bench behind where the BIBO will be located (normally about 5cm from the wall). Make sure you measure the cupboard depth carefully to ensure your hole comes out within the cupboard space below NOTE: if your benchtop is stone or marble you will need a special diamond drill bit.
- Feed the 1/4″ PE pipe down through the hole and along the back of the under bench cupboards to the sink. it may be necessary to drill further holes through the side walls of cupboards to reach the under sink.
- Press the free end of the 1/4″ pipe into the other end of the dual check (PLV) valve under the sink. Secure both ends of the PLV with blue clips behind the locking collars.
- Measure a loop of around 40cm of 1/4″ pipe above the bench and cut off the surplus. The generous loop of pipe allows the BIBO to be pulled out from the wall for cleaning. You are now ready to connect your BIBO.
SAFETY TIPS
- Remember your BIBO weighs 17kgs so take care when lifting it from its box.
- Install your BIBO in a cool, dry place where it is well ventilated. It must be kept away from any heat source.
- Keep the rear of your BIBO at least 5cm (2”) away from the wall for ventilation and cooling efficiency..
- The water pressure should be between 150 – 600kPa (1.5 – 6 bar) in order for the BIBO to operate correctly.
- Your BIBO needs a normal 230Volt/10Amp power supply.
- If your BIBO develops a leak switch it off immediately at the wall socket.
Installation
- Carefully remove the packaging and place your BIBO in its preferred location on the bench top.
- Remove the plastic bag and protective covering from the cable, plug, screen, and drip tray.
- Remove the blank plug from the water inlet at the back right hand side of the BIBO by pressing the locking collar in towards the BIBO with a thumb nail or screwdriver while pulling the plug out. (Pic 4)
- Insert the elbow fitting into the water inlet and secure it with a blue locking clip. (Pic 5)
- Insert the free end of the 1/4″ pipe into the elbow and secure it with a blue locking clip. (Pic 6)
- Check that all fittings are firmly connected.
- Turn on the water supply to the BIBO under the sink by rotating the small connector valve a quarter turn so it is in line with the water flow. Check immediately for any leaks below the sink or at the water inlet to the BIBO.
- Check that both switches (Power and Heating) at the rear left hand side of your BIBO are in the off (O) position before plugging in your BIBO and switching it on at the wall. (NOTE: the off position is down not up).
- Switch on the Power switch only at this stage, the one closest to the rear left side of your BIBO.
- DO NOT TURN ON THE HEATING SWITCH UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE COMPLETED FILLING THE HOT TANK AS DESCRIBED ON PAGE 6 OF THIS USER MANUAL
- Now follow the instructions called “Using Your BIBO” on pages 6-12 of this manual and follow the BIBO’s onscreen prompts. If you have any questions please call us on 1300 002 426.
Re-setting the hot tank thermal overload switch
In the unlikely event that you turn your BIBO’s hot tank on without filling it
with water first, the BIBO will trip its thermal overload switch for safety.
In order to reset this switch, first turn off the BIBO at the mains and
remove the plug from the wall. Let the BIBO cool down for 30 minutes.
N.B. The following instructions assume the BIBO is facing you.
- Remove the left hand side panel. This is held in by 2x screws at the rear of the panel, 1x at the top and 1x at the bottom. Remove the drip tray then locate 1x (smaller) screw to the left of the drip tray space.
- Remove the lid of the BIBO then loosen the 3x screws in the top panel that run in a line on the left from front to back.
- You will now be able to remove the side panel, start by pulling it firmly from the rear bottom corner and easing it slowly out.
- The hot tank is encased in black insulation & is located at the front of the BIBO. The thermal overload switch is in between the two electrical connectors at the front and at the bottom of the tank. There’s a small, black button at the centre that you should press to re-set. A flat blade screwdriver will do this but don’t press too hard!
- Re-fit the side panel by easing it under the top panel then snapping the bottom into the base of the BIBO. Secure it with the 3x screws, 2x at the back and 1x at the front of the side panel. Do not over tighten. Finally re-tighten the 3x screws securing the top panel and replace the lid.
- Now plug the BIBO back in & follow the install & first use instructions on pages 6-12 of this manual.
Changing the coloured side panels
BIBO’s coloured side panels can be changed in the event of a kitchen
redecoration or a move. New panels are available to purchase by contacting
sales@bibowater.com.au or call us on 1300 002
426.
In order to change the panels, first turn off the BIBO at the mains and remove
the plug from the wall.

- Turn the Power switch located at the back of the BIBO to off (‘O’) or alternatively switch the BIBO off at the wall socket..
- Turn off the water supply to the BIBO by closing the lever on the connector valve under the sink so it is at right angles to the water pipe.
When you come back:
- Turn on the water supply to your BIBO by opening the lever on the connector valve.
- Turn the Power switch at the back of your BIBO to the on (‘1’) position.
- Touch the hot water key make sure the water flows, and then touch the hot water key again to stop.
- The hot water tank will now begin heating.
- It’s a good idea to rinse fresh water through both tanks so remove the drip tray & place a jug or similar of at least 2ltrs capacity under the taps then follow steps 7 and 8 below:
- Touch the cold key and allow the water to run until it stops automatically after dispensing approximately 1.5ltrs.
- Repeat this process by touching the hot key. NB the water will be hot!
- The hot tank will now take approximately 3 minutes to reach maximum temperature,.
- Check that the day/date/time and other settings are correct. If not then follow the instructions on pages 8, 9 and 10 of your BIBO User Manual.
Disconnecting your BIBO when moving home
-
Turn off the water supply to your BIBO where it is connected to your mains water pipe. Normally this connection consists of a connector valve. Turn the water off by closing the lever on the connector valve through 90 degrees.
-
Back at your BIBO touch the to relieve any pressure in the pipe. A small volume of water may be dispensed. Touch the key again.
-
Flick the power and hot tank switches at the back of your BIBO to off (‘0’).
-
At the water connection on the back of your BIBO, twist the blue tap lever so it’s at right angles to the water pipe.
Where the pipe enters the tap, depress the collar and remove the pipe. -
This length of water pipe should NOT be used again but can be removed from behind/under your kitchen units and disconnected from the connector valve or ‘washing machine’ valve.
-
To re-install your BIBO in your new home please follow the relevant sections of the self-installation instructions in Appendix 1 of the BIBO User Manual.
Safety tips:
- As your BIBO is full of water it now weighs 20kgs so take care when lifting it.
- It’s important that your BIBO is kept upright during transportation.
