Considerations for Cooking

Induction

  • Induction cooktops use energy-saving technology that heats only the contents of the pots, not the surrounding air. As a result, there is more likelihood of condensation on the hood, on the splashbacks, and on the surrounding furniture compared to traditional electric or gas cooktops.
  • Other factors that influence condensation are ambient temperature, humidity, natural ventilation of the hood, size of the pots, and the way in which the induction cooktop is used. For example, rapid boiling increases the likelihood of condensation. It is important to know that neither the hood nor the induction cooktop is defective.

Reduction of Condensation

  • During boiling, set the hood to a lower speed and the induction cooktop to a lower temperature.
  • Turn on the hood 5 minutes before cooking and leave it running for at least 5 minutes after cooking is finished.

Gas

  • The surfaces of the hood can become hot if a powerful gas cooktop is used with one or more burners simultaneously. This effect can be reduced by using the maximum speed setting to allow for the rapid extraction of hot air.

Optimization of Performance

  • Turn on the hood a few minutes before cooking. This way, it promotes the passage of air currents through the hood, removing the hot air from the kitchen and keeping the hood surface cool.
  • Reduce the fan speed for normal use and increase it in case of high heat, odors, or strong fumes.

Care and Cleaning

Disconnect the appliance from the electrical supply before any cleaning operation. Clean the kitchen hood regularly with a mild liquid detergent and a soft cloth to prevent the build-up of grease. Avoid the use of chemical products, abrasive powders, hard brushes, and steel wool pads. In coastal areas or areas with high humidity, cleaning must be performed more frequently. Do not operate the hood without filters in position.

Aluminum Filters

  • Clean the aluminum filters once a month. The filters may need to be cleaned more frequently depending on the cooking methods used and frequency of use.
  • The aluminum filters must be removed and cleaned with warm water and soap or in the dishwasher.
  • If washed in the dishwasher, the filter must be placed vertically to prevent food from falling on it.
  • After rinsing and drying, reassemble the filters.

Removing Aluminum Filters: Open the perimeter plate. Pull the stop and tilt the filter down until it disengages from the supports.

Repositioning Aluminum Filters: Place the filter on the support at the back of the kitchen hood. Push the filter into position. Close the perimeter plate.

Carbon Filters (only for some models)

  • The carbon filters are intended for use in recirculation mode. They are disposable and should be replaced at least every three months to ensure the hood’s performance. In case of fire, filters full of grease could be flammable.

Removing Carbon Filters: Remove the aluminum filters from the hood before removing the carbon filters.

Repositioning Carbon Filters: Place a new carbon filter on each side of the motor inlet and rotate until it clicks into position. Reassemble the aluminum filters.

Replacing LED Lights: Contact a qualified Fisher & Paykel service technician. Refer to fisherpaykel.com for contact details.
