IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS
INSTRUCTIONS PERTAINING TO A RISK OF FIRE, ELECTRIC SHOCK OR INJURY TO
PERSONS. PLEASE RETAIN FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.
WARNING – When using electrical appliances, basic precautions should
always be followed, including the following:
- Read all instructions before using the appliance
- To reduce the risk of injury, close supervision is necessary when an appliance is used near children
- Do not put your fingers or hands into the waste disposal
- Turn the power switch on to the off position before attempting to clear a jam or remove an object from the disposal
- When attempting to loosen a jam in a waste disposal, use a long wooden object such as a wooden spoon or the wooden handle of a broom or mop.
- When attempting to remove objects from a waste disposal use long-handled tongs or pliers. If the disposal is magnetically actuated, non-magnetic tools should be used.
- To reduce the risk of injury by materials that may be expelled by a waste disposal, do not put the following into a disposal: clam or oyster shells; caustic drain cleaners or similar products; glass, china or plastic; large whole bones; metal, such as bottle caps, tin cans, aluminium foil or utensils; hot grease or other hot liquids; whole cornhusks.
8. When not operating a disposal, leave a stopper in place to reduce the risk of objects falling into the disposal.
9. DO NOT operate disposal unless splash guard is in place.
10. For proper grounding instructions see the ELECTRICAL CONNECTION portion of this manual.
11. Installation of this appliance must be done by a professional installer; it is not intended for DIY installation and must be installed in accordance with local building regulations and laws.
12. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or an authorized competent person in order to avoid hazard.
13. This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
14. Children should be supervised to ensure that they do not play with the appliance.
ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS
WARNING: This appliance must be earthed. In the event of a malfunction, earthing provides a path of least resistance for the electrical current, thus reducing the risk of electrical shock. Installation of this appliance must be done by a professional installer who is registered with one of the Building Regulations Part P self-certification schemes that operate in the UK and is able to test and self-certify their work. This appliance is not intended for DIY installation.
CONTINUOUS FEED OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
The anti-jam swivel impellers on the grind plate make a clicking sound as they
initially swing into place.
This indicates normal operation.
A. Remove the sink stopper and turn on a medium flow of cold tap water.
B. Press switch to ON position; your motor is turning at full speed and ready
to use.
C. Scrape in your food waste including leftovers, peelings, rinds, seeds,
pits, small bones and coffee grounds. Almost all types of food waste can be
disposed of quickly. To speed up food waste disposal, cut or break up large
bones, meat rinds and corn cobs. Large bones and fibrous waste can require
considerable grinding time and you may choose to dispose of them via
composting or other waste solutions if you prefer. Do not be alarmed that the
disposal slows down while grinding. The disposal is actually increasing torque
(grinding power) and is operating under normal conditions.
D. Before turning disposal off, let water and disposal run for approximately
15 seconds after shredding or grinding stops. This assures that all waste is
thoroughly flushed through the disposal and drain.
E. It is not recommended to use hot water while running the disposal. Cold
water will keep waste and fats solid so disposal can flush away particles more
easily.
TIPS FOR SUCCESSFUL OPERATION
- Be sure your disposal is empty before using your dishwasher so it may drain properly, if you have connected your dishwasher to your disposal.
- We advise you to leave a stopper in the plug hole when not in use to prevent utensils and foreign objects from falling into the disposal.
- Your disposal is ruggedly built to give you many years of trouble-free service. It will handle all normal food wastes, but it will NOT grind or dispose of non-food waste. Items as plastic, tin cans, bottle caps, glass, china, leather, cloth, rubber, string, clam and oyster shells, aluminium foil, cutlery or feathers should never be put into the disposal.
BATCH FEED OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS
The anti-jam swivel impellers on the grind plate make a clicking sound as they
initially swing into place.
This indicates normal operation.
A. Remove the sink stopper and turn on a medium flow of cold tap water.
B. Drop food waste into the disposal chamber till full.
C. Insert the stopper into the disposal to switch it on. One of the two small
slots in the stopper base must line up with the switch plunger located inside
the neck of the disposal. Push down firmly.
D. Once grinding is completed, lift the stopper to shut off the disposal, then
if you have further waste to dispose of, refill the disposal chamber and
repeat step C.
E. On the last batch of waste, run the disposal with water for 25 seconds
after grinding stops to assure that all waste is thoroughly flushed through
the trap and drain.
F. When not in use, we recommend leaving the stopper in place with the medium
slot over the plunger, this will allow water to drain, but cutlery cannot
accidentally drop into the disposal.
G. When you want to fill the sink with water, insert the stopper so that the
large slot lines up with the switch plunger. The stopper can then be pushed
down to seal the sink without activating the disposal.
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO LUBRICATE YOUR DISPOSAL
The motor has been built to be permanently lubricated. The disposal is self-
cleaning and cleans its internal parts with each use.
Never put lye, bleach or any form of chemical drain cleaner into the disposal
as this will cause serious corrosion of metal parts. If used, resulting damage
can easily be identified and your guarantee would be void. Mineral deposits
from your water, particularly hard water, can form visible residue on the
stainless-steel turntable, giving the appearance of rust. DO NOT BE ALARMED,
no action is required, the stainless-steel turntables and grinding components
will not corrode.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Before seeking professional help, repair or replacement, we recommend that you
review the following:
LOUD NOISES: (Other than those during grinding of small bones and fruit
pits): These are usually caused by accidental entry of cutlery, bottle caps or
other foreign objects. To correct this, turn off the electrical switch and any
water flow. After disposal has stopped, remove the splash guard and remove the
object with long handled tongs, then replace the splash guard.
UNIT DOES NOT START: Unplug the power cord or turn either the wall switch or
breaker box switch to “OFF” position, depending on your model and wiring
configuration. Remove the stopper and/or splash guard. Check to see if
turntable will rotate freely using a wooden handle. If the turntable rotates
freely, replace the splash guard and check the reset button to see if it has
been tripped (will be sticking out).
The reset button is red and located on the front of the disposal. Push button
in until it clicks and remains depressed.
Reset Button should be pressed only once. Never push the reset button unless
power is switched off at the power point.
If reset button has not been tripped, or pressing does not correct the
problem, check for any damaged, shorted or broken wire connecting to disposal.
Check the electrical power switch, fuse box or circuit breaker. If the wiring
and electrical components appear to be intact, the unit may have internal
problems that require service or replacement. If your disposal is still within
its guarantee period, please contact the service team, details of which are in
the guarantee section of this manual. If your disposal is out of guarantee,
please contact a professional service technician that is qualified to work on
waste disposals or alternatively you can still contact the service team but
all work will be charged.
IF TURNTABLE DOES NOT ROTATE FREELY: Turn off power to the disposal, then
check for any foreign object lodged between the turntable and the grind ring.
Dislodge object by rotating table with a wooden spoon or broom handle (see the
image below) and remove the object. Once the turntable is free, remove the
screwdriver and your hand from inside the disposal, replace the splashguard
and then press the red reset button at the bottom of the machine. Switch the
power back on to determine if this
has resolved it.
If there is not a visible foreign object, insert a flat-headed screwdriver into one of the two triangular holes cut into the turntable
Then, using the hole to anchor the screwdriver, push the turntable around in
an anti-clockwise direction. Do this until the screwdriver can push the
turntable 360 degrees. Once the turntable is free, remove the screwdriver and
your hand from inside the disposal, replace the splashguard and then press the
red reset button at the bottom of the machine. Switch the power back on to
determine if this has resolved it.
If the above does not resolve the issue, there may be internal problems. If
your disposal is still within its guarantee period, please contact the service
team, details of which are in the guarantee section of this manual. If your
disposal is out of guarantee, please contact a professional service technician
that is qualified to work on waste disposals or alternatively you can still
contact the service team but all work will be charged.
LEAKS: If the unit leaks at the top, it may be due to:
- Improper seating of sink flange (gasket centering, putty or tightening).
- Support ring not tightened properly.
- Defective or improperly installed cushion mount.
If unit leaks at the waste elbow, leak may be due to improper tightening of
elbow flange screws.
If your installation was within the last 12 months, please contact Kitchen
Eco, contact details are on their website at
www.kitcheneco.co.uk and they will arrange for
a technician to visit. If your disposal was installed more than 12 months
previously, please contact a professional service technician that is qualified
to work on waste disposals or alternatively you can still contact Kitchen Eco
but all work will be charged.
